Meta acquired Limitless on December 5, 2025, and the deal ended the startup’s standalone consumer-product direction. Limitless stopped taking new Pendant sales that day; it said existing Pendant customers would receive a free Unlimited plan and support through 2026. Rewind’s computer-screen and audio capture was scheduled to stop on December 19, 2025. If you still have an account, prioritize exporting anything you need and checking any separate subscription billing. Limitless’ announcement and customer FAQ provide the company’s stated terms.
What happened to Limitless after Meta acquired it?
Meta acquired Limitless, the company formerly known as Rewind, on December 5, 2025. Limitless said its team would join Meta’s wearables organization to help accelerate work on AI-enabled wearables. The financial terms were not disclosed, and Meta did not announce a future Limitless-branded device or confirm that it would continue the Pendant as a product. TechCrunch’s acquisition report also describes Limitless’ history and the Pendant’s $99 price before sales ended.
The practical result was a wind-down of Limitless as an independent consumer service: new Pendant sales stopped, Rewind capture was discontinued, and desktop and web recording ended. Existing Pendant customers were given a stated support period through 2026, but that is not a promise of indefinite service or continued development.
How Rewind became Limitless
- Rewind: The company began with a Mac app that recorded and indexed activity on a user’s computer.
- Limitless: The company rebranded in 2024 and shifted toward the Pendant, a wearable for capturing and transcribing real-world conversations.
- Meta acquisition: In December 2025, the team joined Meta’s wearables effort, while the standalone products were wound down. 9to5Mac’s coverage provides additional product-history context.
The names describe related but distinct products: Rewind captured computer activity; the Pendant captured conversations around the wearer. The acquisition does not mean the Rewind app was simply renamed as a Meta app.

Can you still buy a Limitless Pendant?
No. Limitless said it stopped selling the Pendant to new customers on December 5, 2025. Although a legacy product page may still display bundles and prices, that page conflicts with the company’s announcement and should not be treated as evidence that orders are available: the legacy Pendant page.
Limitless had described the device as a $99 product before sales ended, according to TechCrunch. Prices of $299, $399, or $547 shown on the legacy page are not current purchase prices established by the shutdown announcement.
What existing Pendant owners were promised
Limitless said existing Pendant customers would receive its Unlimited plan without a subscription fee and would be supported throughout 2026. It also said previously recorded meetings would remain accessible during 2026. The company required customers to accept updated privacy terms and conditions to continue.

Those commitments concern a limited support window, not a guarantee that every feature works for every account or country, or that the Pendant will function after the service ends. The device depends on Limitless accounts and backend services for functions such as transcription, storage, and search. Owning the hardware is therefore different from having a self-contained recorder that works indefinitely.
What happened to Rewind and the desktop and web apps?
Limitless said a Rewind update would disable screen and audio capture beginning December 19, 2025. Its desktop and web apps also stopped recording. The company said previously recorded meetings were expected to remain accessible through 2026. That is temporary access to existing material, not assurance that new recordings, search, exports, or account access will continue after the stated period. The official FAQ describes these changes.
Which regions lost service?
Limitless said service was no longer supported from December 5, 2025, in Brazil, China, the European Union, Israel, South Korea, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. It gave affected users until December 19, 2025, to download stored transcripts or account information; after that deadline, their accounts and associated information were to be permanently deleted.

That deadline applied to the listed regions, not necessarily to all customers worldwide. If you are affected, check your account status rather than assuming the global support commitment applies to your location. The dates and regional list are from Limitless’ announcement.
What should current and former users do?
- Sign in and check access. Confirm whether your account and recordings are still available in your country.
- Export what you need. Preserve recordings, transcripts, summaries, and account information before access changes. Limitless’ privacy materials describe exporting through the app and API: Limitless privacy page.
- Check where you are billed. Review whether any subscription is billed through Apple or directly by another provider. Cancel through the billing provider; deleting the Limitless account does not necessarily cancel third-party billing. The account and subscription help page specifically notes the Apple subscription distinction.
- Ask about refunds separately. The shutdown announcement does not promise automatic refunds. Eligibility and the process depend on the purchase and billing channel.
- Delete only after preserving needed data. The help documentation describes account deletion in the iOS app under Settings → Delete Account and says deletion is irreversible. Verify that this path is still available before relying on it.
- Keep records you may need. Preserve relevant material before deleting an account, especially if it matters for work, legal, medical, tax, or personal records. Deleting your account may not remove copies you previously shared elsewhere.
Exporting, deleting individual recordings, and deleting an account are different actions. An export may not reproduce every app feature: raw audio, transcripts, summaries, metadata, and searchable indexes are distinct kinds of data. Confirm what the export contains before treating it as a complete archive.
What happens to your recordings and privacy?
Limitless’ privacy materials say users should notify people and seek consent before recording, can set audio retention periods and delete recordings, and can export data. The company also says data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Those are company statements about its practices, not independent verification of a particular account’s handling. See Limitless’ privacy page.

Recording rules depend on jurisdiction and context. State laws differ in the United States, and workplace, medical, educational, and confidential conversations may involve additional rules or policies. Do not assume that a device’s indicator or a general rule about consent is enough; check the requirements that apply to the people and setting involved.
Why did Meta acquire Limitless?
The confirmed rationale is strategic: Limitless said its team would help Meta accelerate AI-enabled wearables, and the company described a shared vision for personal AI through wearable devices. Meta already had a wearables business built around smart glasses, making Limitless’ experience relevant to that effort. TechCrunch reported the acquisition and the absence of disclosed financial terms.
It is reasonable to infer that Meta valued the team and technology more than continuing the consumer Pendant business: sales stopped and the standalone software was wound down. That remains an inference, not a disclosed transaction structure or a confirmed plan to put Pendant technology into glasses or another Meta product.

There is no single replacement for both products because they served different jobs. Choose by workflow, not just by the label “AI recorder.”
- For wearable, in-person conversation notes: Plaud offers dedicated recording products, including the wearable NotePin S. Its vendor describes a Starter plan with 300 transcription minutes monthly, Pro at $17.99 per month or $99.99 per year with 1,200 minutes monthly, and Unlimited at $29.99 per month or $239.99 per year with up to 24 hours of transcription per day. These are Plaud’s June 2026 pricing details, not a direct comparison of recording quality. See Plaud’s product and plan information and Plaud’s site.
- For occasional recording: A phone-based recorder and transcription app may avoid buying another wearable, but it is less hands-free and can be affected by battery, notifications, and permissions.
- For online meetings: Desktop meeting-transcription tools are a closer fit for Zoom, Teams, or browser calls than a wearable, but they do not replace spontaneous in-person capture.
- For Rewind-style computer memory: Look specifically for desktop screen and audio capture. A conversation recorder is not equivalent to a tool that indexes activity across a computer.
- For privacy or continuity concerns: Consider local or self-hosted transcription, while accounting for setup complexity and potentially fewer polished wearable features.
Before paying, check whether recording is manual or automatic, whether processing is local or cloud-based, what exports include, retention and deletion controls, subscription limits, and what happens to your data if the vendor closes. The Limitless shutdown is a useful reminder that a recorder’s long-term value depends on its service as well as its hardware. Avoid buying a second-hand Pendant unless the seller can demonstrate current pairing and service access.
