AVi8’s announcement says the potential airline would operate Airbus aircraft if it receives the required approvals. The distinction matters: an aircraft plan is not a confirmed fleet, and Pan Am has not yet established scheduled service.
What airplane would Pan Am use if it returns?
AVi8, Pan Am’s partner on the proposed airline, said on October 9, 2025 that the business plan was complete and the FAA certification process had been initiated. Its announcement described a future airline headquartered in Miami and operating Airbus aircraft, subject to FAA and U.S. Department of Transportation approvals. Aviation and travel coverage have identified the Airbus A320 family in reported fleet plans; AFAR also reports A330s. Those model details are secondary reporting, not a model-level commitment in AVi8’s public announcement. AirlineGeeks’ coverage and AFAR’s report
Why an A320-family plan could matter
The reported A320-family choice would point toward a different role from the large, long-haul aircraft that dominate Pan Am’s historical image. The A320 is a narrowbody aircraft family commonly associated with short- and medium-haul airline operations; an A330, also reported in coverage of the plan, is a widebody family. That distinction suggests a possible division of roles, but the public material cited here does not establish routes, aircraft allocation, or operating economics.

Pan Am’s original airline used aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing, according to the Pan Am Historical Foundation, so the proposed use of Airbus aircraft would not be wholly outside the brand’s history. Pan Am Historical Foundation aircraft history
The public announcements do not provide reliable figures for A320 purchase or lease costs, fuel savings, reliability, or route profitability. Without those figures, it is not possible to establish that an A320 fleet would make the proposed airline financially viable. Aircraft type alone cannot answer whether the comeback will work.

As of the latest dated announcements in this account, the proposed scheduled airline remains conditional on regulatory approvals. Public statements cited here do not establish a firm aircraft delivery schedule or a date when passengers could book scheduled flights.
Is Pan Am already flying again?
Not as a scheduled airline, based on the announcements described above. Pan Am Journeys is a separate private-jet travel product. AFAR reports that those trips currently use a leased Boeing 757-200 configured with lie-flat business-class seating. That aircraft is not evidence of the planned scheduled airline’s fleet.

- Regulatory progress: confirmation from the FAA and U.S. DOT that required approvals have been granted, rather than only an announcement that certification work has begun.
- Specific aircraft commitments: an official model and variant, along with a publicly stated acquisition or lease arrangement. Reported A320-family plans are not equivalent to a confirmed fleet.
- Delivery and launch details: a credible aircraft delivery schedule and a scheduled-service start date. Neither is established by the announcements cited here.
- Operating plan: published routes and service details that clarify how the reported narrowbody and widebody aircraft, if both are used, would fit the airline’s network.
Until those details emerge, the A320-family story is best understood as a reported planning choice, not proof that Pan Am has secured aircraft or is ready to carry scheduled passengers.
