Lockheed Martin named Pallas Aviation the first commercial freighter operator for its LM-100J on October 11, 2018. The announcement described a plan for Pallas to manage and exercise operational control of two aircraft based at Fort Worth Alliance Airport. It records the plan at that time—not proof that the aircraft were delivered or that Pallas operates them today.
What Lockheed Martin announced
In its October 11, 2018 announcement, Lockheed Martin identified Pallas Aviation as the LM-100J’s first commercial freighter operator. Pallas was to provide management services and operational control for two aircraft, based at Fort Worth Alliance Airport in Texas.
The announcement positioned the aircraft for customers whose cargo missions call for heavy-lift or oversized-load capability, including access to unconventional airports and remote locations. It did not identify specific customers, routes, or cargo contracts.
What the LM-100J is designed to do
The LM-100J is Lockheed Martin’s civil derivative of the C-130J-30 Super Hercules. Lockheed Martin describes it as a freighter for bulk and oversized cargo, with the ability to operate from short, unprepared airfields where ground support may be limited. These are manufacturer claims, not independent comparative findings.
#1 Best Overall
- IFF antenna array in front of the cockpit distinguishes this CCIP-equipped model from other F-16s.
- Curved form of the F-16 accurately reproduced with trademark Tamiya precision.
- Moveable horizontal stabilizers. "Flaperons" can be modelled in the up or down positions.
- Full ordnance load including AGM-88 HARM, AIM-120C AMRAAM, AIM-9M/X Sidewinder, ECM pod, and fuel tanks included.
- Centerline and inner wing pylons as well as tail assembly feature polycaps to allow easy detachment for storage.
Lockheed Martin’s LM-100J product page lists a maximum cargo load of 45,650 lb (20,707 kg) and a maximum speed of 355 knots (660 km/h). The page also says the aircraft can land on hard, non-paved surfaces with little to no infrastructure. Maximum figures describe manufacturer-published capability; actual payload and mission performance depend on operating conditions and configuration.
What was planned, and what is confirmed
| Date | What the cited announcement or page says | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 2014 | Lockheed Martin says it introduced the LM-100J as an updated version of the legacy L-100 commercial Hercules. | Manufacturer-reported program history. |
| October 11, 2018 | Lockheed Martin announced Pallas as the launch operator and described a two-aircraft management and operating plan based at Fort Worth Alliance Airport. It also said two LM-100Js were flying in support of FAA type-certificate update testing. | The announcement and testing activity as reported by Lockheed Martin at that time; not delivery to Pallas. |
| November 18, 2019 | Lockheed Martin announced an FAA type-certificate update and described delivery of two aircraft to Pallas in 2020 as a next step. | A historical certification milestone and planned delivery, not confirmation that delivery occurred. |
| Current status in the cited official material | Pallas’s aircraft page describes a plan to manage two aircraft starting in 2019 but does not provide a clear current operating update. | Does not establish present fleet size, delivery, service, ownership, routes, or operating status. |
The distinction matters: an operator announcement and a future delivery schedule do not, by themselves, establish that an airline or cargo operator took delivery or began service. The official sources cited here do not resolve whether the two-aircraft plan was completed or what Pallas’s current status is.

Why this aircraft could suit specialized cargo missions
The business case described in the announcement is access and payload flexibility, rather than a general claim that the LM-100J is the best freighter for every shipment. A freighter that can use short or unprepared runways may be relevant when the destination lacks the runway length, pavement, or ground-handling infrastructure expected by conventional cargo operations. Oversized or heavy cargo can also make aircraft payload and loading requirements central to route planning.
For a cargo customer evaluating an aircraft or service, the relevant questions include:
Rank #3
- HIGHLY DETAILED: Model kit of the Lockheed Martin F-35A Fighter Aircraft - Currently the most modern stealth multi-role fighter aircraft
- SUBJECT DETAILS: The F-35A also features very good stealth characteristics and advanced sensor technology.
- MODEL DETAILS: New Tool 2024 - Multi-piece fuselage - Various armaments - Multi-part landing gear
- FURTHER MODEL DETAILS: Includes a fully illustrated, step-by-step instruction manual, decal set and painting guide and paint reccomendations (sold seprately)
- Does the shipment fit the aircraft’s usable payload and cargo dimensions for the specific mission?
- Can the aircraft use the destination’s runway and operating environment, including surface condition and available support?
- What are the route, fuel, handling, and schedule requirements?
- Is an operator actually offering the relevant service on the required route and date?
Lockheed Martin’s specifications speak to its aircraft’s stated capability; they do not establish Pallas service availability, a price, or suitability for a particular shipment.
How to read the quoted program figures
Lockheed Martin’s 2018 announcement said more than 100 L-100s had been delivered to private and government operators from 1964 to 1992. It also cited almost 2 million flight hours for C-130J variants in the context of military aircraft. Those historical figures provide program context, but they are not LM-100J operating statistics.
Rank #4
- Highly detailed surfaces
- Detailed cockpit
- Authentic decal set
- Illustrated instructions
The current product page separately reports more than 1.2 million C-130J fleetwide flight hours. This is a different figure, presented in a different page context; it should not be combined with the 2018 release’s almost-2-million figure or treated as an LM-100J-specific total.

In the 2018 announcement, Pallas Aviation president Emory Ellis said the LM-100J offered “one of the newest cargo freighters” with a pedigree in the C-130J Super Hercules. That is Pallas’s view of its aircraft choice, not an independent comparison of competing freighters.
