Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete, not still approaching. The English Football League (EFL) confirmed on 2 May 2026 that the club’s administrators had agreed to transfer its assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC, the club had new owners, and it was no longer in administration.
Has Sheffield Wednesday been taken over?
Yes. The EFL confirmed the completed agreement on 2 May 2026. The transaction ended Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership, according to BBC Sport. The EFL said the club met relevant league requirements under its new ownership.

The EFL described the process as “an incredibly challenging and complex situation for all parties.” Its announcement was the confirmation that the sale had moved beyond the preferred-bidder stage to an agreement transferring the club’s assets.
Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
The buyer was Arise Capital Partners LLC. In its 10 March 2026 announcement, Sheffield Wednesday named Arise as preferred bidder and said its consortium comprised David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The club said the bidder had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds and had entered an exclusivity period while regulatory processes continued. Those were terms of the March stage, before the EFL’s May confirmation of the agreement.

Is Sheffield Wednesday still in administration?
No. The EFL said on 2 May 2026 that the club was no longer regarded as being in administration following the agreement with Arise. That distinguishes the completed sale from the earlier administration and prospective-buyer phase.
What happened to the possible 15-point deduction?
The EFL decided not to impose a 15-point deduction following the club’s exit from administration. The league said it had considered proposals put to former owner Dejphon Chansiri by the joint administrators and the new ownership. Its stated position was that it “would not be appropriate to impose a 15-point deduction on the Club following its exit from Administration.”
What restrictions apply under the new ownership?
BBC Sport reported that Sheffield Wednesday would be subject to budget restrictions for the next two seasons as a condition of continuing EFL membership. That duration is BBC’s reporting; it was not stated in the EFL’s ownership announcement. The BBC also reported the club’s preceding administration and relegation.
How did the takeover move from contact to completion?
- 10 March 2026: Sheffield Wednesday named Arise Capital Partners LLC its preferred bidder and said the consortium had entered exclusivity while regulatory processes continued.
- By 2 May 2026: The EFL said the joint administrators had formally concluded an agreement with Arise to transfer the club’s assets. It confirmed new ownership, the club’s exit from administration and its decision not to impose the considered 15-point deduction.
The earlier preferred-bidder announcement was a step in the sale process, not proof of a completed takeover. The EFL’s May statement supplied that confirmation.
What is known about later ownership changes?
The official EFL confirmation establishes the club’s status as of 2 May 2026. The sources cited here do not establish whether ownership changed again after that date, so the May announcement should not be treated as verification of the club’s ownership on every later date.
