Those are two different milestones: Disney’s opening figures were estimates, while later cumulative totals come from a dated studio announcement and a separately maintained box-office database.
What box-office records did Predator: Badlands set?
Disney reported an estimated $80 million worldwide opening weekend for Predator: Badlands, including an estimated $40 million in North America and $40 million internationally. The studio called the worldwide and domestic launches the strongest in the franchise’s nearly 40-year history. These were opening-weekend estimates, not cumulative grosses. Disney’s November 2025 announcement described the film as opening No. 1 globally.

The domestic opening edged past the prior franchise mark set by 2004’s Alien vs. Predator. The Associated Press reported that film opened to $38.3 million; its comparison was not adjusted for inflation. The Numbers’ current table lists the two opening figures more precisely as $40,016,853 for Badlands and $38,291,056 for Alien vs. Predator. Both comparisons are nominal dollars, not inflation-adjusted.
Is it the highest-grossing Predator movie?
Yes, by worldwide gross. Disney UK said on December 30, 2025, that Badlands had reached $183 million worldwide, passing the $177.4 million it cited for Alien vs. Predator. That made it the franchise’s highest-grossing entry at the time of the announcement. The studio’s figure was rounded and tied to that date.

Its current worldwide figure for Alien vs. Predator is $172,543,519, rather than the $177.4 million in Disney UK’s December statement. These are figures from different publishers and reporting cutoffs; the database total should not be substituted for the studio’s dated, rounded announcement.

What is the film, and what might explain its distinct place in the franchise?
Predator: Badlands is a 2025 science-fiction action film directed by Dan Trachtenberg. The official 20th Century Studios page lists its release date as November 7, 2025, its rating as PG-13, and its runtime as 1 hour 47 minutes. Its story follows Dek, an outcast young Predator, and Thia on a remote planet. The studio’s film page provides the synopsis and specifications.

Disney’s franchise feature describes it as the first Predator Universe film to center the Yautja species and the first in the franchise to make a Predator the protagonist and underdog. That is a notable creative departure, but the available figures do not establish that this choice caused the box-office records.

Not by itself. The AP described Badlands as the franchise’s most expensive film at the time, with a reported $105 million production budget. Comparing that budget with gross receipts does not establish profit: box-office gross is not the same as the amount returned to the studio, and the comparison excludes costs such as marketing and distribution as well as later revenue. No profit figure is established by the cited box-office totals.
