There is no confirmed announcement that Pokémon is reprinting Moonbreon. The nickname refers to Umbreon VMAX 215/203 from Sword & Shield—Evolving Skies. Pokémon said in March 2025 that it would continue reprinting impacted products generally, but did not identify this card or set. Claims that Moonbreon was—or would be—2025’s most expensive Pokémon card also need a defined date, condition, market and price measure.
What is the Moonbreon card?
“Moonbreon” is collectors’ informal nickname for Umbreon VMAX 215/203, an alternate-art card from the Sword & Shield—Evolving Skies expansion. Its printed name is Umbreon VMAX, and the official card record credits illustrator Keiichiro Ito. Pokémon’s card database and the Evolving Skies checklist identify it as part of that set.
Is Moonbreon being reprinted in 2025?
No card-specific reprint has been confirmed in the official information cited here. On March 27, 2025, The Pokémon Company International said it would maximize production for future expansions and continue reprinting impacted products to replenish stock at participating retailers. Its availability update does not name Umbreon VMAX, Evolving Skies or Moonbreon.
That statement indicates a broad effort to improve availability; it is not proof that any particular card will return in a new print run. A product restock, even if it contains Evolving Skies cards, would also not by itself establish that this specific card was reprinted. Treat claims that Moonbreon is “coming back” as unconfirmed unless Pokémon identifies the card or product in an official announcement or checklist.

Is Moonbreon 2025’s most expensive Pokémon card?
The available evidence does not establish that ranking. A claim about the “most expensive” card needs to specify what is being compared: the date range, region and currency, card condition or grade, and whether the figure is a completed sale, an asking price or a market estimate. Those measures can produce different rankings, and the cited sources do not provide a comparable 2025 overall ranking for Moonbreon.

Prismatic Evolutions includes a separate Umbreon ex special illustration rare. TCGplayer described that card as the set’s most expensive card when it published its Prismatic Evolutions ranking. Some collectors call it “Sunbreon.” It is not Umbreon VMAX 215/203, does not come from Evolving Skies, and is not a Moonbreon reprint. A ranking within one set also does not establish which Pokémon card was most expensive overall in 2025.

How to assess a Moonbreon price claim
- Check the identity: confirm the listing is Umbreon VMAX 215/203 from Evolving Skies, not another Umbreon card.
- Check the condition: distinguish an ungraded card from a professionally graded copy, and compare like grades when relevant.
- Check the transaction: a completed sale is evidence of a transaction; an unsold listing is only an asking price.
- Check the market and date: note the country, currency and observation date before comparing values or describing a card as the year’s most expensive.
