Scopely put the announced transaction value at $3.5 billion. The business included Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, Campfire and Wayfarer; Niantic’s separate geospatial technology business became Niantic Spatial.
What did Niantic sell to Scopely?
The transaction covered Niantic’s games business, not all of Niantic. Scopely’s March 12, 2025 announcement named Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now, along with the companion apps and services Campfire and Wayfarer. Scopely said the game teams would join its organization and continue working on their roadmaps with their long-time studio leaders. Its May 29 closing update said more than 400 Niantic gamemakers joined Scopely.

Scopely described the acquired business as having more than 30 million monthly active players and generating more than $1 billion in revenue in 2024. It also said Pokémon GO had more than 100 million unique players in 2024. These are figures published by Scopely, not independent estimates. Scopely’s announcement and closing update
What was the deal worth—and where did the money go?
Scopely announced the acquisition at a transaction value of $3.5 billion. That figure describes the stated value of the deal; it should not be confused with the separate amounts Reuters reported for Niantic equity holders and the new geospatial company.

Who owns Scopely, and what does “Saudi-owned” mean?
Scopely is a wholly owned entity of Savvy Games Group, according to Savvy’s announcement. Reuters described Savvy as owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund. So “Saudi-owned” refers to that ownership chain—PIF to Savvy to Scopely—not to the Saudi government directly operating Pokémon GO or its other games.

What happened to Niantic after the sale?
Niantic said it would focus on geospatial technology. Reuters reported that its geospatial AI business was spun into Niantic Spatial, led by Niantic founder John Hanke. Niantic Spatial received the $250 million in initial capital described above, including $50 million from Scopely. This business was separate from the games division acquired by Scopely.

What does the sale mean for players?
The companies said the games’ teams and roadmaps would continue under Scopely, with long-time studio leaders remaining in place. That describes the announced operating plan and Scopely’s account of continuity; it is not a guarantee that every future feature, policy or in-game decision will remain unchanged. In a one-year retrospective, Scopely described its integration approach as protecting creative autonomy, leadership and product continuity while supporting live-service sustainability. That is the buyer’s account of its approach, not an independent assessment of results. Scopely’s one-year retrospective
