Rebecca Gray did receive a prison sentence for the Tinder-related fraud: Perth Magistrates Court imposed an eight-month term, suspended for one year, according to The West Australian. That means the term was not to be served immediately, subject to the suspension’s conditions; it was not an acquittal or a sentence without imprisonment.
What happened in the fraud case?
The West Australian reported that Gray pleaded guilty to three fraud counts after meeting two men on Tinder while using the name Arrow Anderson. She allegedly told them she had terminal cancer and described medical procedures that had not taken place. The newspaper said both men provided financial support and did not know about each other while doing so.

One of the men, Sean Fry, was reported to have lost $3,500; the second man lost $7,500. The reported combined loss was $11,000. Fry’s mother was also identified as a victim because she cared for Gray and let her use a car, but the report did not assign a monetary amount to her involvement.
What sentence did Gray receive?
The West Australian reported that Perth Magistrates Court imposed eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for one year, and ordered Gray to undertake any community program authorities deemed necessary. A suspended prison sentence is still a prison sentence; the term is suspended rather than served immediately. The report also said the court was told Gray would have gone to prison if she had previous convictions.

What was said about the circumstances?
The newspaper attributed to defence lawyer John Rando an explanation that the fraud began after Gray experienced another abusive relationship and psychological issues. It also reported that she had a semi-permanent physical injury and appeared in court on crutches. These details are the defence account and the newspaper’s reporting, not independently verified medical findings or a complete account of the magistrate’s reasoning.
Fry told 7 News Perth, in a quotation reproduced by The West Australian: “You just don’t think someone who tells you they’ve got cancer, doesn’t have cancer.”

What is not established by the report?
The West Australian report is not the sentencing judgment, and the full sentencing remarks were not available. The precise reasons the magistrate selected a suspended term, any detailed findings about remorse or rehabilitation, and whether there was a later appeal or proceeding are not established by the reported account.
The $11,000 total is specific to the losses reported in this case; it is not a broader measure of Tinder-related or romance fraud.
