Otta announced a $20 million Series A led by Tiger Global Management on January 25, 2022. The London-based job-search company paired technology roles with information about employers, positioning the service as a candidate-first way to assess both a vacancy and the company behind it. Welcome to the Jungle acquired Otta in 2024; the UK service now uses the Welcome to the Jungle brand.

What Otta’s $20 million Series A funded

Otta announced the financing on January 25, 2022. Tiger Global Management led the round. Existing investors LocalGlobe and Founder Collective also participated, alongside named angel investors: Indeed’s Paul Forster; Deel’s Alex Bouaziz; Ben Herman of Canvas.com, now Kin Ventures; Sophie Adelman of Multiverse; and Beamery’s Sultan Saidov and Abakar Saidov. The announcement coverage did not disclose individual investment amounts. TechCrunch’s January 25, 2022 report covered the round and investors; Otta’s company announcement, republished by Welcome to the Jungle, also described the financing.

At the time, Otta said it planned to use the funding to expand its U.S. presence with a local commercial team and double its London product and engineering team. Those were plans stated at the announcement, not confirmation that either target was later achieved.

How Otta’s job-search platform worked

Otta focused on roles at technology companies and paired job listings with employer context. TechCrunch described information including founder biographies, employee reviews, salaries, and industry. That database-like proposition meant a candidate could consider details about a company alongside the particular vacancy, rather than treating each listing as an isolated posting. The sources describe the product experience, not its underlying technical architecture.

Otta called its approach “candidate-first job search”: matching and discovery organized around what job seekers wanted, rather than only the needs of recruiters or employers. Co-founder and CEO Sam Franklin told TechCrunch: “When we started Otta, people told us job search was soul-crushing. Recruitment felt like it was stuck in the classifieds era. We believe there’s a different way, and we call it candidate-first job search.” This was the company’s stated product philosophy; the funding announcement alone does not establish that it produced better hiring outcomes.

TechCrunch compared the idea to a “CrunchBase for Jobs.” That was the reporter’s analogy, not the name of Otta’s product. The supported distinction from a conventional listing-led job board is the combination of technology-company roles, candidate-oriented matching, and employer information such as salaries and reviews—not a documented claim that Otta was superior to other services.

What Otta reported about users in 2022

TechCrunch reported several figures supplied by Otta in its January 2022 coverage. They are historical company-reported metrics, not current service statistics or independently verified measurements.

Reported figure What it referred to Qualification
37% Users who named meaningful work as their number-one priority Otta-reported; TechCrunch did not provide survey methodology or field dates.
18% Users who prioritized compensation Otta-reported; TechCrunch did not provide survey methodology or field dates.
1,000 applications per month to more than 5,000 per day Growth in applications sent through Otta since its January 2020 launch Otta-reported to TechCrunch in January 2022; this is a historical comparison, not a present-day usage figure.

The priority percentages should not be read as representative of all job seekers: the report supplies no survey method or dates that would support that conclusion. Likewise, the application comparison describes growth reported by the company up to the 2022 article, not a verified measure of current activity.

What happened to Otta?

Welcome to the Jungle announced that it had acquired Otta on January 22, 2024. The acquisition announcement said the Otta brand would continue operating at that time. Welcome to the Jungle’s acquisition announcement provides that dated account.

As of October 8, 2026, the UK job-search service is presented under the Welcome to the Jungle brand, formerly Otta. The company’s UK job-search site presents recommendations, matching, company insights, application support, and location and remote-work options; these live features may change. Welcome to the Jungle says it is a trading name of Otta Technology Ltd. Its official transition page explains the change and describes a broader hiring suite for employers, including employer branding, job matching, sourcing, and an applicant tracking system.
