Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic and Wegovy List-Price Cuts Start January 1, 2027

Novo Nordisk’s announced $675 list price for specified Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus presentations begins January 1, 2027—but it does not guarantee that patients will pay $675.

Novo Nordisk plans to lower the U.S. list price of certain Ozempic and Wegovy presentations to $675 starting January 1, 2027. The announced change is not immediate, does not cover every dose or form, and does not mean every patient will pay $675. It is a change to the drugs’ wholesale acquisition cost (WAC), or list price—not a guaranteed change to an individual’s cash or insured bill.

When do the Ozempic and Wegovy price cuts take effect?

Novo Nordisk announced the change on February 24, 2026. The new list prices are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. Until then, the announcement does not itself lower the list price.

The company says the change represents an approximately 50% reduction for Wegovy and 35% for Ozempic compared with their then-current list prices. Those percentages describe list-price reductions, not a promised percentage saving for an individual patient. Novo Nordisk’s announcement provides the effective date, price, and product scope.

Which Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus presentations are included?

The announced $675 monthly WAC applies to these specific U.S. presentations:

Medicine Presentations named in the announcement Announced monthly WAC from January 1, 2027
Wegovy Injection 2.4 mg; tablets 25 mg $675
Ozempic Injection 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg $675
Rybelsus Tablets 7 mg or 14 mg $675

The announcement names these presentations; it should not be read as covering every dose, formulation, or semaglutide product.

Does $675 mean that is what patients will pay?

No. WAC is a manufacturer list-price benchmark, not necessarily the amount charged at the pharmacy or the patient’s final cost. An uninsured person’s cash price can differ from list price. An insured patient’s cost depends on plan coverage and terms such as deductibles and coinsurance, as well as pharmacy arrangements and any applicable assistance.

Novo Nordisk’s announcement does not quantify patient-level savings or say how insurers and pharmacies will respond. Axios reported that the 2027 list-price cut does not itself change the cash price for people without insurance. Axios’s February 24, 2026 report also attributed the rationale to Jamey Millar, Novo Nordisk’s executive vice president for U.S. operations, who cited learning since launch and a desire to improve affordability, particularly for patients with high deductibles or coinsurance. That is the company executive’s explanation, not a measurement of actual savings.

How does the announced cut differ from other price routes?

Compare a medicine’s price only after identifying its type, effective date, eligible presentation, and channel or coverage terms. The announced WAC change is separate from self-pay offers and government pricing arrangements.

Historical self-pay offer

Novo Nordisk’s 2025 annual report described an introductory $199 monthly self-pay offer for the first two doses, 0.25 mg and 0.5 mg, for new self-pay patients through March 31, 2026, followed by a stated standard self-pay price of $349 per month. The introductory period had ended by October 8, 2026, so it is not a current offer based on those dates. These figures describe that separate offer, not the 2027 WAC. Novo Nordisk Annual Report 2025

Government pricing framework

The same annual-report material describes a U.S. government framework intended to lower semaglutide prices across Medicare Part D, Medicaid, and direct-to-patient channels from 2026 onward, including a Medicare pilot for qualifying beneficiaries. Those arrangements are distinct from the 2027 list-price change; eligibility and terms depend on the relevant program.

Hims & Hers access agreement

On March 9, 2026, Novo Nordisk announced an agreement under which Hims & Hers customers would have access to FDA-approved Ozempic and Wegovy injectables and the Wegovy pill at Novo’s self-pay prices. This is an access-channel announcement, not the same thing as a list-price reduction. Its announcement does not establish current availability or publisher affiliate terms.
