Nissan aims to double the number of NISMO models available worldwide, from five to ten, but it has not confirmed a separate, NISMO-only production sports car. The company has announced a NISMO concept for Tokyo Auto Salon 2026; its announcement does not say the concept will enter production.
Is Nissan doubling the NISMO lineup?
Yes—as a stated goal, not a completed expansion. In a December 16, 2025 announcement, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customization Co., Ltd. said they aim to increase the number of NISMO models available globally from five to ten. Nissan’s announcement also set broader business targets for 2028:
| Measure | Current level cited by Nissan | 2028 target |
|---|---|---|
| Annual NISMO shipments | Approximately 100,000 | Approximately 150,000 |
| Overseas share of sales | Approximately 40% | 60% |
| Globally available NISMO models | Five | Ten |
These are company targets, not verified results or guarantees. Nissan’s release does not provide independent measurement of whether they have been achieved.
Is Nissan making an exclusive NISMO sports car?
That has not been confirmed in the official announcements. Nissan has described a NISMO concept and a broader lineup-expansion goal, but it has not announced an approved or scheduled standalone NISMO production sports car. Treat claims that one is coming as speculation unless Nissan or another reliable source provides confirmation.

What is the new NISMO concept?
Nissan said a NISMO concept model would make its public debut at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, held January 9–11 at Makuhari Messe. The company presented it as an expression of NISMO’s future direction and performance philosophy. Its strategy announcement and Tokyo Auto Salon event page do not provide a production name, specifications, price, launch date, or commitment to sell the concept.
Nissan also said it planned to introduce prototype vehicles for racing activities beginning in fiscal year 2026. The company describes a “road to track, track to road” approach: racing development is intended to contribute to NISMO hardware and software and help support lineup expansion. That plan does not, by itself, identify a future road car.

How does the 2026 Nissan Z NISMO fit in?
The 2026 Nissan Z NISMO is a current sports car listed by Nissan USA. Nissan describes changes to performance and handling compared with the Z. It is an example of an existing NISMO-badged model, not evidence that the Tokyo Auto Salon concept is a Z variant or that Nissan has approved a separate NISMO-only production car. Its specifications and availability are specific to the U.S. market and model year; see Nissan USA’s 2026 Z NISMO page.
