At launch, yes—with an important qualification. Circana called Nintendo Switch 2 the fastest-selling video game hardware device in US history based on its June 2025 US debut. But over its first 12 months, it ranked second in Circana’s US tracker, behind Game Boy Advance. The answer depends on the time window.
What did Switch 2 sell at launch in the US?
Circana figures attributed to analyst Mat Piscatella put Switch 2 sales above 1.1 million units in the US launch week ending June 7, 2025. That figure excluded purchases through My Nintendo Store, and it surpassed the previous launch-week record held by PlayStation 4, according to Nintendo Life’s report.

For the full month, Circana reported 1.6 million Switch 2 units sold in the US in June 2025, the highest launch-month hardware unit sales in US history. In its June market highlights, Piscatella described Switch 2 as the fastest-selling video game hardware device in US history at debut. Nintendo Life reported those figures.
Was it still the fastest-selling after one year?
No. In Circana’s US tracker, which began in 1995, Switch 2 reached 5.9 million units over its first 12 months and ranked second-fastest. Game Boy Advance reached 6.5 million units over its corresponding first-year comparison, according to Circana figures attributed to Piscatella and reported by Nintendo Life.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
So the launch records and the first-year ranking are not contradictory: Switch 2 set records for launch week and launch month, while Game Boy Advance had sold more units by the end of its first year in the tracker’s comparison.
How do the US figures differ from Nintendo’s global sales?
Nintendo announced that consumers worldwide bought more than 3.5 million Switch 2 systems in the first four days after its June 5, 2025 launch. Nintendo defines sell-through as units sold to individual consumers by retailers and through its own direct-sales websites. This worldwide four-day figure is a different measure from Circana’s US launch-week tracker figure. Nintendo’s announcement gives the definition and launch total.

Mario Kart World was a prominent launch companion. Circana figures reported by Nintendo Life said 79% of US launch-week buyers acquired the game, either as a physical copy or through the hardware bundle. Nintendo separately reported 5.63 million Mario Kart World units worldwide by June 30, 2025, counting bundle units. These are distinct figures: one describes US launch-week buyer attachment, while the other is Nintendo’s worldwide game tally. See Nintendo Life’s launch-week report and Nintendo’s sales page.
