MSG Distributors announced in August 2023 that it had acquired Boxed.com and related assets after Boxed filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. That was separate from the earlier sale of Boxed’s Spresso software business, which closed in May 2023. A July 2024 report said Boxed.com had relaunched under MSG, but its operating status as of October 8, 2026, is not established by the available sources.

What MSG acquired—and what it did not

MSG’s announced acquisition concerned the Boxed.com brand, related intellectual property, and affiliates. It followed the Spresso sale, which was a distinct transaction completed during Boxed’s bankruptcy process. The two deals had different assets and timing; the available acquisition coverage does not state MSG’s purchase price. Source: acquisition coverage

MSG Distributors President Mark Gadayev described the acquisition as supporting the company’s distribution strategy: “This acquisition strengthens our inorganic growth strategy and diversifies our distribution models nationwide,” according to the Specialty Food Association’s August 21, 2023 report. What happened to Boxed.com after the acquisition?

Boxed.com was reported relaunched under MSG in July 2024, with Spresso technology supporting the ecommerce experience. That report documents a relaunch at that time; it does not establish whether the site is still operating as of October 8, 2026. Source: relaunch report

For consumers, the distinction is practical: the company’s original retail operation was being wound down during bankruptcy, while the later MSG deal brought the Boxed.com brand and related assets to a new owner. The available sources do not verify current service availability or an affiliate program.
