Omaha Steaks’ Certified Tender began as an April Fools’ joke about the company starting a publishing imprint, then became a real romance-book promotion. The company offered the book as a free download and paired it with a steak dinner bundle—but later clarified that it was not entering the publishing business.
How an April Fools’ joke became Certified Tender
Omaha Steaks announced Certified Tender on March 18, 2025, describing it as the first entry in a planned three-part “Meat-Cute Romance” series. That announcement laid out a series concept; it does not establish that all three books were released. Ulkse’s March 31 report traced the project to an April Fools’ prank about the company launching a publishing imprint.

The same report said the book was written by Omaha Steaks’ in-house creative team. It identified senior copywriter Michael Williams as the writer and Bianca Tournedos as the credited pen name. On April 2, Omaha Steaks followed up on its official campaign page: the company was not entering publishing, but readers could download Certified Tender for free.
What happens in the romance novel
According to Ulkse’s account, the story follows Kate, who searches online for recipes and romance and connects with a butcher named Nick, whose handle is “OmahaSteakGuy1917.” The report says the story includes cooking tips and Omaha Steaks references; these plot details are attributed to that report rather than an independent review of the book.

Ulkse says the title nods to the brand’s USDA Certified Tender filet mignons and that the story contains Easter eggs connected to chairman Todd Simon and CEO Nate Rempe. The report also attributes the line “We’re not a food company, we’re an experiences company” to Rempe, identified as Omaha Steaks’ president and CEO. It quotes Williams describing the project as a way to connect with audiences in unexpected ways. Those quotations are reproduced as Ulkse’s attributions.
Where to get the book—and what the food promotion included
The clearest access route documented by Omaha Steaks was its free official download. Ulkse reported that the book was planned in both hardcover and ebook formats, but the available sources do not establish current hardcover inventory or a current retail listing.

The company’s campaign page also promoted the Meat-Cute Collection, a date-night bundle featuring USDA Certified Tender filet mignons, steak fries, and Drawbridge Cabernet Sauvignon. The page displayed a $99 price when retrieved for this article; that is a time-sensitive snapshot, not a verified current price or indication that the bundle remains available. The page says Omaha Steaks will replace an order or refund its money if a customer is dissatisfied; that is the company’s stated commitment, not independent proof of product quality.

The launch arrived during a strong period for romance and adult fiction, but market context should not be mistaken for evidence about this campaign. Publishers Weekly reported that adult fiction unit sales at outlets reporting to Circana BookScan rose 5.4% in the third quarter of 2024. In a separate October 9, 2024 report, it said seven of the top ten year-to-date bestsellers were romance or romantasy titles. Those figures describe the broader book market at that time; they do not show how many people read or bought Certified Tender, nor why Omaha Steaks made it.

The available reporting makes the project a genuine branded romance promotion, not evidence of a new Omaha Steaks publishing line. The free download, the reported hardcover plan, and the paired dinner collection are distinct parts of the campaign, and current physical-book or bundle availability is not established by the cited pages.
