Reading FC’s takeover by Redwood Holdings Limited was announced in principle on May 3, 2025, and the club’s company page now lists Redwood as its owner. The later Nigel Howe news is about a reported winding-up petition and a disputed claim—not a new takeover bid. The latest specific report in the available sources is dated December 18, 2025; it does not establish the petition’s status or an outcome by October 8, 2026.
What is the latest Reading FC takeover news?
The ownership change and the later dispute are separate developments. Reading FC announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited in May 2025. In December 2025, reporting attributed to Telegraph Sport said former chief executive Nigel Howe had served the club with a winding-up petition. The report also said Reading FC described an ongoing dispute and denied claims against it. That report does not establish a court finding or the petition’s eventual outcome.
Accordingly, the available information does not support describing Howe’s news as a new takeover proposal. Nor does it establish whether the petition was resolved, withdrawn, heard, or settled by October 8, 2026.
Who owns Reading FC?
Reading FC’s official company-details page lists Redwood Holdings Limited as the club’s owner and Robert Emmett Couhig Jr and Todd Trosclair as directors. The club’s May 3, 2025 sale announcement described Redwood as a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair.

The announcement said the sale included Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground and was subject to final legal technicalities. The current company record and the sale announcement are distinct evidence: the former identifies the listed owner, while the latter describes the transaction announced in principle.
What happened with Nigel Howe’s reported petition?
A December 18, 2025 report carried by Yahoo Sports and attributed to Telegraph Sport said Howe had served Reading FC with a winding-up petition. It reported that the club said it was in an ongoing dispute with Howe and denied claims made against it. The report quoted Howe’s legal representative, Peter Coyle, as saying: “My client, Nigel Howe, has no comment to make, save that he very much hopes for an amicable settlement with Reading FC soon.”

The report presents a contested dispute, not an adjudicated finding. The available sources do not provide the petition’s procedural status or a later court or settlement outcome, so neither Howe’s underlying claim nor the club’s denial should be treated as a court-established conclusion.
How the takeover reached the May 2025 announcement
- November 9, 2023: A club statement delivered by Head of Football Operations Mark Bowen said Howe was assisting with the ownership sale process and that discussions with potential bidders were taking place. It said identities and bid structures were private. Reading FC’s statement
- January 2024: BBC Sport reported Howe saying eight parties were interested and a sale would take at least a couple of months. That was a statement about interest at that time, not evidence that those parties remained involved or that a sale was imminent later. BBC Sport’s report
- October 7, 2024: Reading FC said it had agreed an exclusivity period with a potential purchaser. The proposed sale included Dai Yongge’s shareholding, Select Car Leasing Stadium, and Bearwood Park Training Ground. The club also said it had been placed under a formal registration embargo because of late filing of its 2022–23 accounts. Club statement; statement following the EFL board meeting
- April 22, 2025: The EFL said it extended Dai Yongge’s divestment deadline to May 5, subject to other regulations, and continued monitoring Reading FC’s immediate cash-flow requirements. EFL statement
- May 3, 2025: Reading FC announced the sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. Club announcement
What the available record does—and does not—show
The official ownership record supports identifying Redwood Holdings Limited as Reading FC’s owner. The later report supports saying that a petition was reported and that both Howe’s side and the club had positions on a dispute. It does not supply a verified legal outcome. As of October 8, 2026, the sources cited here therefore cannot establish whether proceedings continued or concluded.

Historical disciplinary reporting is separate from both the sale and the petition. In 2024, the FA reported that Reading FC was fined £200,000 and Nigel Howe £5,000, with Howe also receiving a 12-month suspension subject to specified restrictions. Those earlier sanctions do not establish the merits or outcome of the later dispute. The FA’s account
