Neos launched seasonal nonstop flights between Bari and New York JFK in 2025, but the airline has since suspended its planned Summer 2026 return. Neos attributes the decision to changing market conditions, excess capacity on the US–Bari route and declining demand. The route was announced as the first nonstop service from the United States to Italy’s Puglia region—not as proof that Bari had never had any transatlantic flights of any kind.
Did Neos operate a direct flight from Bari to New York?
Yes. Neos began seasonal nonstop service between Bari, in Italy’s Puglia region, and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) on June 3, 2025. The airline’s February 4, 2025 launch announcement said flights would run through October 15, once a week. Neos described Bari as its third JFK destination, after Milan and Palermo.
The launch announcement called the service the “first-ever nonstop flights from the United States to the region of Puglia.” That wording concerns nonstop US–Puglia service; it does not establish that Bari had never previously had transatlantic flights of any kind. Neos’s February 4, 2025 announcement specified a 355-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with Premium and Economy cabins.
What changed for the planned 2026 flights?
Neos and Aeroporti di Puglia later announced that the Bari–JFK service would return in June 2026, with two flights per week. That was an earlier plan, not the route’s current status. Neos’s current breaking-news notice says the direct Bari–New York service planned for Summer 2026 has been suspended following a review of its long-haul schedule.

Neos cites the changing geopolitical context and Atlantic market, excess capacity on the US–Bari route, and declining demand in recent months. The notice does not give a new start date for Bari service.

What happens if you booked Bari–New York?
Neos says customers with direct bookings will receive an email explaining how to request a refund or rebook on an alternative flight. Check the email address and contact details on your reservation, then follow the instructions in the airline’s message. For an up-to-date status check, use Neos’s passenger notice and your booking channel. The notice does not state the terms or timing of individual refunds or alternative itineraries.

What passenger figures have been reported?
Aeroporti di Puglia said 10,000 passengers used the direct Bari–New York service from June to October 2025 in its later post confirming the proposed 2026 return. This is the airport operator’s reported figure, not an independently audited load factor, revenue result or measure of profitability. The operator’s post does not establish that figure as a forecast or as a count for any period beyond the one it names. Aeroporti di Puglia’s confirmation post quotes its president calling the result “extraordinary,” a promotional assessment rather than an independent evaluation.
For context, Neos’s 2025 launch announcement quoted CEO Carlo Stradiotti’s first-year objective of approximately 12,700 passengers. That was a forecast, not a realized count. The later airport-operator figure of 10,000 covers June to October 2025, so the two figures should not be treated as equivalent measures.

Are other Neos flights from Italy to JFK affected?
Neos’s notice said its Summer 2026 schedule included two weekly flights to JFK from Milan and two from Palermo. It separately reports cancellations on those routes beginning September 15, 2026, citing unscheduled extraordinary maintenance and a reduction in fleet capacity. Those are separate schedule changes from the suspension of the planned Bari service; check Neos’s notice for the current status of any specific itinerary.
