The 2024 TreeHouse Foods recall affected certain frozen waffles and pancakes—not all frozen waffles. Learn how to check package identifiers against the U.S. and Canadian lists.

TreeHouse Foods expanded a voluntary recall on October 22, 2024, to cover certain frozen toaster waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes made at one facility and still within shelf life. The affected products were sold under multiple brands in the United States and Canada; this was not a recall of every frozen waffle or every manufacturer’s products. FDA now marks the recall completed and terminated, but anyone with a remaining package can compare its identifiers with the official lists.

Which frozen waffles and pancakes were recalled?

The expanded recall covered products made at one TreeHouse Foods facility and still within shelf life at the time of the expansion. It included frozen toaster waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes distributed across all U.S. states and Canadian provinces under multiple brand labels. Retailers named by FDA include Albertsons, Aldi, Dollar General, Foodhold, HEB, Kroger, Publix, Target and Walmart; the retailer examples are not a complete list. See FDA’s recall notice for the expansion and current status.

The package-level lists—not the product category or brand name alone—determine whether a particular item was included. The FDA product list gives specific U.S. brands, product descriptions, UPCs, lot codes and best-by dates. For example, it lists Best Choice 12.3-ounce Original Waffles, UPC 070038362852, lot 2C211013, best-by 10/31/2024. That is one entry, not a complete list.

U.S. products

For the expanded U.S. scope, all affected lot codes begin with “2C,” according to the company’s notice reproduced by FDA. Use that prefix as an initial check, then compare the full package details against the FDA’s complete U.S. list. A matching brand or a “2C” prefix by itself is not enough to establish that a package is listed.

Canadian products

Canadian consumers should use Health Canada’s Canadian warning, which has its own product table. Its listed labels include Compliments, Duncan Hines, Gordon Choice, Life Smart, Nature’s Path Organic, no name, President’s Choice, Selection and Great Value. Match the product, size, UPC and best-before date in that Canadian notice; do not substitute the U.S. table’s entries.

How to check a package

  1. Find the retail UPC on the back of the carton.
  2. Find the lot code and best-by date on the end of the carton.
  3. For a U.S. package, check whether the lot code begins with “2C,” then compare the full UPC, lot code, product description and date with the FDA’s product-level list.
  4. For a Canadian package, compare its brand, product, size, UPC and best-before date with Health Canada’s Canadian table.
  5. If the package matches an official entry, follow the recall handling advice below. If you cannot confidently identify it, consult the relevant official notice rather than relying on brand or category alone.

What to do with a recalled product

Health Canada advises consumers not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute recalled products. It says to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase. The notice also advises contacting a healthcare provider if you think you became sick after eating a recalled product. Read Health Canada’s notice for its handling guidance.

Why Listeria matters

FDA says Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, sometimes fatal infection, particularly in young children, frail or elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems. It also notes risks of miscarriage and stillbirth during pregnancy. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. FDA’s health-risk information appears in its recall announcement; contact a healthcare provider if you are concerned about illness.
