March Chicago corn, soybean and soft red winter wheat futures all closed lower on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025. In the Daily Market Information Report published by Beef Farmers of Ontario and Keady Livestock Market, corn settled at $4.646 per bushel, soybeans at $10.226 and wheat at $5.466. The declines were not uniform: wheat fell 19.2 cents, corn 13.4 cents and soybeans 1.6 cents.
Chicago grain futures at the Feb. 27 close
The following figures are the March and May Chicago futures closes reported by Beef Farmers of Ontario and Keady Livestock Market for Feb. 27, 2025. Prices are U.S. dollars per bushel; daily changes are in cents per bushel.
| Commodity | Contract | Close | Daily change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corn | March | $4.646/bu | Down 13.4 cents |
| Corn | May | $4.810/bu | Down 12.4 cents |
| Soybeans | March | $10.226/bu | Down 1.6 cents |
| Soybeans | May | $10.372/bu | Down 4.0 cents |
| Soft red winter wheat | March | $5.466/bu | Down 19.2 cents |
| Soft red winter wheat | May | $5.624/bu | Down 17.2 cents |
These are contract-specific futures prices, not cash bids or prices for every grade, delivery point or exchange. The March contracts provide the clearest basis for describing the day as a negative grain close: all three listed commodities fell, but by different amounts.
What “negative across grain” does—and does not—mean
The phrase fits the three March Chicago grain contracts in the report: corn, soybeans and soft red winter wheat. It should not be read as a claim that every grain contract or agricultural market worldwide declined. The same report showed March live cattle futures up $0.57 per hundredweight and March feeder cattle futures up $2.07 per hundredweight, so the broader agricultural picture was mixed.

Weekly export inspections are context, not a daily price explanation
USDA Market News figures republished in a March 3 report put U.S. export inspections for the week ending Feb. 27, 2025, at 1,351,373 metric tons of corn, 695,158 metric tons of soybeans and 389,593 metric tons of wheat. These are weekly volumes of commodities inspected for export—not daily futures trading or prices. They add trade-flow context but do not, by themselves, explain why futures fell on Feb. 27.
What the weekly wheat report says about market pressure
In its report dated Feb. 28, U.S. Wheat Associates said futures markets ended its reporting week lower, with improving weather and higher USDA planting projections for wheat and corn weighing on markets. It reported March Chicago soft red winter wheat down 49 cents over that reporting week, to $5.37 per bushel. That weekly account offers broader context, but it does not isolate the cause of the Feb. 27 session’s move; its weekly figure also covers a different period and reporting basis from the single-day close above.
