NTA Exam Schedule 2024: Initial Dates and Later Revisions for NCET, UGC-NET and Others

NTA’s 2024 examination calendar, published September 19, 2023, gave planned date windows for JEE Main, NEET-UG, CUET-UG, CUET-PG and UGC-NET. Those were initial plans, not final dates for every exam: NTA’s June 28, 2024 notice set NCET for July 10 and UGC-NET June 2024 for August 21–September 4. The Ministry of Education had already cancelled the UGC-NET sitting conducted on June 18.

What the original NTA calendar listed

NTA’s calendar for the 2024–25 academic year was published on September 19, 2023. It listed the following planned dates and test modes. NTA said examination-specific details would be provided in each exam’s information bulletin and directed candidates to check for updates; the calendar should therefore be read as an initial schedule, not a promise that dates would remain unchanged.

Examination Initial date in NTA’s September 19, 2023 calendar Mode listed
JEE Main 2024, Session 1 January 24–February 1, 2024 Computer-based test (CBT)
JEE Main 2024, Session 2 April 1–15, 2024 Computer-based test (CBT)
NEET-UG 2024 May 5, 2024 Pen-and-paper/OMR
CUET-UG 2024 May 15–31, 2024 Computer-based test (CBT)
CUET-PG 2024 March 11–28, 2024 Computer-based test (CBT)
UGC-NET Session I June 10–21, 2024 Computer-based test (CBT)

Which dates NTA revised in June 2024

In a notice dated June 28, 2024, NTA listed fresh dates for examinations that had been postponed or cancelled. For NCET 2024, it announced July 10, 2024; for UGC-NET June 2024, it announced August 21–September 4, 2024. Both were listed in computer-based test mode. These are the fresh dates in that notice, rather than the earlier calendar’s planned windows.

UGC-NET June 2024 Initial calendar listed UGC-NET Session I for June 10–21; the June 18 sitting was cancelled August 21–September 4, 2024 Computer-based test (CBT)

NCET: the April schedule was superseded

NTA’s April 14, 2024 NCET notice described the examination as a computer-based test for the 2024–25 academic session. The later June 28 notice gave the fresh date of July 10, superseding the then-current schedule. See NTA’s April 14 NCET notice and its June 28 revised-date notice.

UGC-NET: cancellation followed by a new date window

The Ministry of Education’s June 19, 2024 release said that UGC had received inputs concerning the examination and that the Ministry decided to cancel UGC-NET June 2024. The release states that the exam had been conducted on June 18 in pen-and-paper, OMR mode. NTA’s June 28 notice subsequently announced August 21–September 4 as the fresh date window, with the exam to be held by CBT. The cancellation and later date announcement refer to separate steps; the June 18 sitting was not the same event as the later scheduled CBT window. Read the Government of India’s June 19 release alongside the NTA June 28 notice.

CUET-UG: retrospective record of dates and a retest

NTA’s July 29, 2024 retrospective release records CUET-UG 2024 examinations in May and a retest on July 19. That later record is useful context, but it is not a substitute for the original calendar or the June notice when determining what dates had been announced at each point.

The release reports 14,99,790 unique registered candidates and 283 participating universities/institutions. These are NTA’s reported figures for CUET-UG 2024; the candidate number is specifically the count of unique registered candidates, not a count of test-paper registrations. See NTA’s July 29, 2024 CUET-UG retrospective release.

How to use a 2024 schedule now

These dates are historical. If you are checking an old application, result, or exam record, match the date to the relevant NTA notice and its publication date: the September 2023 calendar captures initial plans, while later notices document changes. For any current application or upcoming exam, use the latest official notice for that specific examination rather than carrying forward a 2024 date.
