But Textor is not identified as the buyer in the completed takeover: on 2 May 2026, the EFL confirmed that the club had left administration under new ownership by Arise Capital Partners LLC.
Did John Textor buy Sheffield Wednesday?
No. The completed transfer was to Arise Capital Partners LLC, not Textor. The EFL said on 2 May 2026 that the administrators had formally concluded an agreement with Arise for the transfer of the club’s assets, and that Sheffield Wednesday was no longer in administration under its new ownership. The EFL described Arise as a consortium led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. EFL announcement, 2 May 2026.
The available sources do not establish that Textor submitted a formal bid, joined Arise, or took part in the completed transaction. That does not rule out private contact; it means his reported link should not be described as a confirmed bid or ownership role.
What was Textor’s reported connection?
On 8 October 2025, FourFourTwo reported that Textor had some correspondence with then-owner Dejphon Chansiri about a potential deal. The report quoted Textor as saying: “If you wanted to address Sheffield Wednesday, I’d be happy to.” FourFourTwo, 8 October 2025.
