Namecheap Pricing: Is It Still Cheap? 2026 Cost Breakdown

Namecheap’s low first-year .com offer is not its long-term price. Compare the 2026 renewal rate, extension-specific costs, fees and separate hosting renewals.

Namecheap can still offer a low first-year price for a .com domain, but the introductory offer is not the cost to budget for long term. As checked October 8, 2026, its .com page showed a limited new-customer offer of $6.79 for the first year and a renewal price of $18.48 per year. The right comparison is the total cost over the time you expect to keep the domain, including renewal and any applicable fees.

What does a Namecheap .com domain cost?

Namecheap’s .com pricing page showed these prices when checked on October 8, 2026. They are vendor-published prices, not an independent comparison of registrars.

Price type Listed price What it means
New-customer first-year offer $6.79 Introductory offer limited to one domain per user or household.
Promotional registration $11.28 Listed one-year promotional registration price.
Standard registration $14.98 Listed standard registration price.
Renewal $18.48 Listed price for a one-year .com renewal.

These prices do not make the first-year offer a reliable measure of long-term affordability. For example, a two-year budget should account for the actual first-year price you qualify for and the listed renewal price for the next year—not assume the introductory deal repeats. Check the current term and checkout total before registering.

Check Namecheap’s .com registration pricing.

How do renewal costs vary by domain ending?

The extension, or top-level domain (TLD), changes the price. Namecheap’s domain overview listed these annual renewal prices for popular extensions as of October 8, 2026:

Extension Listed renewal price
.com $18.48 per year
.net $18.58 per year
.org $18.98 per year

Less common extensions can have substantially higher renewal prices. Before choosing one, look up its specific registration, renewal, and transfer prices rather than using .com as a proxy. These are Namecheap’s listed prices, not a guarantee of future rates.

See Namecheap’s domain price overview.

What fees and included features should you check?

Namecheap’s .com page states that a mandatory $0.20 ICANN fee applies per domain registration, renewal, or transfer. It also advertises Domain Privacy free for life for eligible domains. Confirm that the domain qualifies and review the final checkout total; do not assume every extension or add-on has the same terms.

Does hosting change the total cost?

Domain registration and web hosting are separate services with separate bills. If you plan to buy Namecheap shared hosting as well, its renewal notice for invoices on or after May 19, 2026, listed these annual renewal prices:

Shared-hosting plan Annual renewal price
Stellar $55.88
Stellar Plus $85.44
Stellar Business $128.88

Those hosting renewals are additional to the domain’s renewal and any applicable fees. Compare hosting plans separately on the same basis—plan, billing cycle, and renewal term—rather than treating a domain registration promotion as the cost of a complete website.

Why can Namecheap’s prices change?

Domain prices can change when the registry that operates an extension changes its rates. Namecheap’s October 6, 2026 notice described price updates affecting 226 Identity Digital extensions and said existing registration promotions would remain unchanged for their promotional duration. That notice does not make today’s price a permanent rate; check the current price for the exact TLD and term when you buy or renew.

What happens if a domain expires?

Letting a domain expire can involve a redemption fee to recover it, and the fee depends on the extension. Namecheap publishes extension-specific redemption prices, so there is no single recovery amount that applies to every domain. Check the redemption price for your TLD and renew before expiration if you want to avoid the risk and potential added cost.

How to judge whether Namecheap is cheap for you

  1. Identify the exact extension and registration term you want.
  2. Compare the first-year price you are eligible for with the renewal price for that TLD.
  3. Add the stated ICANN fee and check whether privacy is included for your domain.
  4. If you need hosting, add its recurring renewal cost separately.
  5. Check the current checkout total and, for an expired domain, its extension-specific redemption price.

Namecheap’s prices alone do not establish that it is the cheapest registrar overall. A fair comparison with another registrar needs same-date prices for the same TLD and term, plus renewal, transfer, privacy eligibility, fees, add-ons, and recovery costs.
