Five unnamed contestants filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against MrBeast-related entities and Amazon in Los Angeles Superior Court on September 16, 2024. The complaint alleges wage-and-hour violations, unsafe or inadequate production conditions, and sexual harassment affecting female contestants. These are allegations, not findings by a court.
What does the Beast Games lawsuit allege?
According to reporting by the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post, the complaint says contestants were denied proper minimum wages and overtime, meal and rest breaks, adequate food, hygiene products, and medical care. It also alleges unsafe conditions and injuries, including hospitalization.

Why do contestants argue they should receive employee protections?
The plaintiffs’ employment theory is that contestants who contracted for compensation and worked under production control should be treated as employees entitled to protections under California law. Plaintiffs’ attorney Robert Pafundi has argued that the compensation contracts and production staff’s control support that position. That is the plaintiffs’ legal argument; the sources reviewed do not establish that a court has accepted it.

Variety reported that one plaintiff, identified in the coverage as Contestant 5, said: “I wanted to join because I was a fan of MrBeast and his videos made me smile during the COVID-19 pandemic.” The statement describes that contestant’s reported reason for participating; it does not establish the truth of the complaint’s claims.
Is this a certified class action?
No. The five contestants filed a proposed class action, which means they seek to represent a broader group. Filing a proposed class action does not itself mean a judge has certified a class. Legal coverage identifies the case as 24STCV24042 in Los Angeles Superior Court.

What is the lawsuit’s status?
Available secondary reporting described the case as unresolved through mid-2026, stating that the court had not ruled on class certification and that no settlement or dismissal had been reported by then.
