If you missed a DHL delivery, first check the shipment’s tracking page to confirm whether a delivery attempt actually happened. Then follow any card or notification instructions and review the delivery changes available for that specific shipment. If the online options are missing or unclear, contact the local DHL customer service team. DHL services and country rules differ, so a missed attempt does not guarantee a particular number of redelivery attempts, a fixed holding period, or automatic redelivery.
What happens after a missed DHL delivery?
The next step depends on the DHL service, destination, shipment, and local delivery process. The parcel may still be moving through the network, another delivery attempt may be arranged, or DHL may offer collection or a delivery change. Check the shipment’s status before deciding what happened: a missing delivery card by itself does not prove an attempt was made.
DHL Express says, “Availability of delivery options and notification channels varies by country.” The choices shown for your shipment—not a general list of possible DHL services—are the ones to rely on. DHL Express On-Demand Delivery
What to do, step by step
-
Check the tracking status
Use the shipment number provided by the merchant or shop on the DHL tracking page linked from the shipment notification or local DHL site. Look for the latest scan and whether it says a delivery attempt was made, the parcel is still in transit, or action is available. DHL Singapore advises checking tracking when no card is found because the parcel may not yet have reached the delivery stage. DHL Singapore: Missed your DHL delivery?

Read the card or notification
If the courier left a card or DHL sent a notification, follow its shipment-specific instructions. DHL Singapore describes a “Not Home Card” with a QR code linking to On-Demand Delivery. Other DHL services and local operations may use different notifications or processes. DHL eCommerce UK’s notification guide, for example, includes a “We stopped by” status and notes a possible ServicePoint route; that guide describes UK notifications, not a universal DHL rule. Review the options shown for this shipment
Open the shipment-specific delivery-management page, such as DHL Express On-Demand Delivery if your shipment is eligible. Depending on the country and shipment, available choices may include changing the delivery date, collecting at a ServicePoint or locker, sending the parcel to an alternate address, or holding delivery while you are away. Do not assume every option will appear for every shipment. DHL Express On-Demand Delivery

Contact local DHL customer service if needed
If you cannot access the delivery options or cannot tell what the tracking status means, use the DHL customer service channel for the country and service handling your parcel. DHL Singapore says recipients can contact customer service to arrange redelivery. Have the shipment number ready and ask whether redelivery, collection, or another action is available and whether there is a deadline. DHL Singapore: General Queries
How to choose between redelivery and collection
Compare only the choices DHL actually offers for your parcel. A practical decision depends on how soon you need it, how easily you can travel, whether the pickup point is accessible, and whether another authorized person can receive it. Confirm the deadline for each option before choosing, especially if the notification mentions collection or a return.

- Redelivery: May avoid a trip, but check the date and whether someone can be present to receive the parcel.
- ServicePoint or locker collection: Can provide a pickup alternative when offered, but requires access to the specified location and compliance with any collection instructions.
- Alternate address or delivery hold: May suit a schedule or absence, but availability depends on the shipment and local rules.
- Another recipient: If someone else may collect or accept delivery, verify the shipment’s authorization and identification requirements with DHL; these details are not established as the same across DHL services.
Why you should verify any collection or return deadline
Do not rely on a universal DHL holding period or attempt count. Rules for one DHL service or country cannot safely be applied to another. For example, DHL eCommerce Poland publishes a local process in which failed attempts can be followed by a short collection window and eventual return to sender. That is a Poland-specific example, not a global DHL policy. Check the instructions attached to your own shipment and act promptly if they give a deadline. When there is no card or the tracking is unclear
- If tracking shows the parcel is still in transit or has not reached delivery, wait for a new scan or notification rather than treating the shipment as missed.
- If tracking confirms an attempt but gives no clear next step, contact the local DHL customer service team with the shipment number.
- If tracking and a card or notification appear to conflict, ask DHL which status and deadline apply to the shipment before arranging collection or redelivery.
