How did player activity change?
The same GamesBeat report gave separate active-user increases: 9% on mobile and 41% on console. These are user figures, not revenue or units sold.
Microsoft separately reported on its FY2025 Q3 earnings call that Minecraft weekly active users had increased by more than 75% year over year since the film’s release. That is a company-reported engagement comparison, not a sales statistic, and its year-over-year baseline differs from the post-release framing of Sensor Tower’s figures. Why are other reported figures different?
A separate 2025 Sensor Tower report excerpt hosted by InvestGame gives 44% growth in mobile in-app purchase revenue and 36% growth in console games sold for April. It is framed as April growth, rather than the post-release increases summarized by GamesBeat. The excerpt available here does not provide enough methodological detail to determine whether the baselines, date ranges, or platform coverage match. The two pairs therefore should not be blended or treated as directly comparable. The reported rises in active users and weekly active users are consistent with increased engagement after the film’s release. They do not, by themselves, show that returning players drove the change: the figures do not distinguish new players from returning ones. Nor do the available reports isolate the film as the sole cause of the sales or user increases.
