How much did Swatch Group sales grow in 2022?
In its 24 January 2023 results announcement, Swatch Group reported net sales of CHF 7,499 million for 2022. The increase was 4.6% when calculated at constant exchange rates, compared with 2.5% at current exchange rates. The Swiss watch industry federation later corroborated the CHF 7,499 million sales figure and the 4.6% constant-rate increase.
The two rates describe the same sales comparison using different currency treatments. Constant exchange rates hold exchange-rate effects out of the comparison, while current exchange rates reflect them. For that reason, the 4.6% and 2.5% figures are not competing estimates of sales growth.
How did China affect the results?
Swatch Group said sales grew 25% in local currencies in every region except China. It attributed China sales shortfalls of more than CHF 700 million to Covid-related lockdowns. That company explanation provides context for why the overall sales increase was lower than growth in most regions; the announcement does not establish a separate exact China growth rate.

Did profits rise along with sales?
Yes. Swatch Group reported higher operating profit and net income than in the prior year. Its operating margin also increased, while cash flow moved in the opposite direction.

The company said operating cash flow fell mainly because it precautionarily increased safety stock. The earnings gains therefore should not be read as evidence that every financial measure improved: both operating and free cash flow were lower than the prior year.

What did MoonSwatch contribute to the announcement?
Swatch Group said more than 1,000,000 MoonSwatch watches had been sold by 24 January 2023 and reported continuing high demand that month. It also described approximately 180 stores as exclusively offering the product at the time. These are historical figures from the announcement, not evidence of current inventory or availability.
