In July 2015, PerthNow reported that Multiplex heir Tim Roberts had sued naval architect Mark Ellis and his company, Windsurf Holdings, alleging defects made his yacht Anya unsuitable for long-range use. The report described claims in a writ, not findings by a court; it does not establish how the case was resolved.
What Roberts alleged
PerthNow reported on 4 July 2015 that Roberts had begun civil proceedings against Ellis and Windsurf Holdings. According to the report’s account of the writ, Roberts alleged that Anya’s hull caused the vessel to slam into waves at long-range cruising speeds, “causing shuddering and springing throughout the vessel”. He claimed the resulting passenger and crew comfort was below an “unacceptable standard for a luxury catamaran”. These were allegations, not independently verified engineering findings.
The report said the yacht was built over two years at a Fremantle shipyard following a 2007 arrangement that Roberts’ writ characterized as verbal. It reported that Roberts claimed losses including selling the yacht in 2009 for less than its construction value and paying for repairs.
What the 2015 report said about Anya
PerthNow described Anya as a 35-metre luxury motor yacht and catamaran, reported to have cost $30 million. The article listed a helipad, accommodation for 11 guests and eight crew, two staterooms, two VIP suites, a saloon, a formal dining room, designer French furniture and a jacuzzi.

Those specifications and financial figures are details reported by PerthNow in 2015, not independently verified here. The same article estimated the Roberts family’s wealth at about $1.82 billion and said Roberts had later bought another yacht reportedly worth $75 million, citing unnamed sources for that valuation.
What is—and is not—known about the case
The available account is a contemporaneous news report, not the writ itself or a court decision. It identifies Roberts as the claimant and Ellis and Windsurf Holdings as defendants, but does not establish that the alleged defects were proven, or report a judgment, settlement or other later outcome.

PerthNow reported that Roberts’ lawyer, Paul Blackman, declined to comment on his client’s behalf, describing it as a “private, civil case”. That was a decision not to comment, not a statement about the merits. The report also said Ellis was unavailable for comment; it contains no response from him on the allegations.
