The report records a dispute over whether she should pay; it does not establish that this particular demand was legally enforceable or that it was not.
What happened at Galleria
PerthNow’s Jonathon Nolan reported that a woman sought advice on social media after receiving a $65 notice for parking longer than the centre’s three-hour customer limit. A Galleria spokesperson told the newspaper that the limit was three hours. That is the centre’s stated limit as reported in 2024, not confirmation of its current parking rules. PerthNow’s report
The shopper’s post, reproduced in the article, asked: “Anyone received a parking infringement at the Galleria? I have shopped and parked there for 24 years and never had a ticket,”
Why people disagreed about paying
PerthNow described social-media commenters as advising the woman not to pay. The report also quoted defence lawyer James Clements saying: “Ignore it. Or write back and say, ‘I dispute this and do not intend to pay’,” and expressing the view that “only a statutory body has the power to issue fines”. These are attributed opinions in a news report, not a court’s ruling on the woman’s notice or a determination of every private parking demand. PerthNow’s report
