Tim Dunn’s reported connection to Donald Trump is a $5 million donation to MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC, in December 2023—not a direct contribution to Trump’s campaign. The gift fits into Dunn’s broader record as a major Texas political donor, where money linked to him has also supported state-level committees and candidates.
Who is Tim Dunn?
Associated Press reporting describes Dunn as a billionaire, a born-again evangelical and one of Texas’s most influential political donors. Those descriptions are AP’s characterizations; the reporting cited here does not provide a complete accounting of his wealth or political giving.
Dunn’s political activity has included both national and Texas-level spending. The available reporting identifies donations and committee activity, but it does not establish his total giving across all Trump-aligned groups or a comprehensive lifetime total.
How did Tim Dunn back Trump?
AP reported that Dunn gave $5 million to MAGA Inc. in December 2023. AP describes MAGA Inc. as a pro-Trump super PAC. The reported recipient was the political committee, not Trump’s campaign committee, so it is more precise to say Dunn supported a pro-Trump super PAC than to say he donated directly to Trump’s campaign. AP’s May 2024 report documents the contribution.

What does Dunn’s Texas political activity show?
Texans United for a Conservative Majority
In January 2024, The Texas Tribune reported that Hexagon Partners, a firm tied to Dunn, and Farris Wilks funded Texans United for a Conservative Majority. The Tribune said the PAC’s disclosed donors through the filing period were Hexagon Partners and Wilks. Hexagon contributed $700,000 and Wilks contributed $1.3 million, for $2 million reported in funding from those sources.
The PAC reported more than $400,000 in candidate contributions between January 1 and January 20, 2024, mostly to primary challengers. The Tribune covered the group’s formation after the controversy involving then-Defend Texas Liberty president Jonathan Stickland and Nick Fuentes; the political context and descriptions of that episode are the outlet’s reporting. The Texas Tribune’s January 2024 report details the funding and spending.
Activity reported in 2026
In March 2026, The Texas Tribune reported that the Texas Freedom Fund for the Advancement of Justice, formerly Defend Texas Liberty, contributed $225,000 to Bo French and spent another $150,000 on an ad promoting his Railroad Commission primary bid. The article said the relevant PACs were predominantly financed by Dunn and Wilks. The reported donor for the French contribution was the PAC; that does not establish that Dunn personally made that payment.

The Tribune also reported that Texas Politics Project research director Joshua Blank viewed the donations as signaling interest in elevating French as he began a statewide political career. That is analysis attributed to Blank, not a statement of Dunn’s motive. The Texas Tribune’s March 2026 report describes the committees’ spending and funding.

State campaign-finance totals can depend on the filing period, committee name and the type of transaction counted. The Texas Ethics Commission provides searchable campaign-finance reports and a downloadable contribution-and-expenditure database that it says is updated nightly with data through the previous day. Most filers must file electronically, subject to statutory exemptions.
