The footballer behind the “world’s richest footballer” and “14x Ronaldo’s net worth” claims is Faiq Bolkiah, a Brunei international and nephew of the Sultan of Brunei who spent time in Leicester City’s youth setup. But the headline figures are media estimates—not verified evidence of Bolkiah’s personally owned wealth—and the exact 14-times comparison is not independently substantiated.
Who is Faiq Bolkiah?
Bolkiah is a Bruneian footballer and member of Brunei’s royal family. The Asian Football Confederation identifies him as the Sultan of Brunei’s nephew and reports that he represented Brunei at under-23 and senior level. It also describes his path through youth teams at Chelsea and Southampton before he joined Leicester City’s youth setup. The AFC’s account of Bolkiah is a useful source for that career background.
Why is he called a Leicester “flop”?
“Flop” is a judgement in the headline, not a neutral description of a player’s career. The supported connection to Leicester is that Bolkiah joined the club’s youth setup; that does not by itself establish a senior first-team record or justify treating him as a failed first-team signing. The AFC records his youth-club path and Brunei representation, while a 2026 FourFourTwo feature recounts later spells at Marítimo, Chonburi and Ratchaburi.
Where does the “14x Ronaldo’s net worth” claim come from?
A February 2019 Goal.com report circulated an estimate of £15 billion ($20 billion) for Bolkiah and compared it with an estimate for Cristiano Ronaldo. That is a reported estimate, not a disclosure of Bolkiah’s assets or an audited personal-wealth valuation. The report does not provide primary verification of the figure.

The “14x” wording should therefore be read as a media comparison, not an established ratio between verified personal fortunes. The sources reviewed do not establish that wealth associated with Brunei’s royal family or dynasty belongs personally to Bolkiah. Later coverage still repeats very large wealth claims, but repetition does not establish individual ownership or verify the estimate.
What is known—and not known—about his wealth?
The reported £15 billion ($20 billion) figure belongs to Goal.com’s 2019 account of the claim. It should not be presented as a verified net-worth figure. The reviewed sources do not provide audited records or another primary disclosure establishing Bolkiah’s personal assets. Nor do they show that the royal family’s wealth can be attributed to him individually.

That distinction matters whenever a headline compares a royal-family member’s supposed fortune with a footballer’s net worth. A family association, a media rich-list estimate and an individual’s documented assets are different kinds of evidence. On the material available here, Bolkiah’s personal net worth is not established.

Current status is not settled by the reviewed 2026 coverage. FourFourTwo describes Bolkiah with Ratchaburi, while a Corriere della Sera report dated 22 September 2026 says he was without a club after Ratchaburi. Because those accounts conflict, neither is enough to state his present club status as fact; an official club or league record would be needed to resolve it. Corriere della Sera’s September 2026 report is one account of the discrepancy.
