Rolex announced Jean-Frédéric Dufour’s move from Zenith on 14 April 2014; he took over as Rolex’s CEO in June 2015. “New CEO” describes that historical appointment, not a fresh 2026 announcement. Rolex’s available history documents his succession but does not confirm whether he still holds the role today.

When did Jean-Frédéric Dufour become Rolex CEO?

Rolex confirmed Dufour’s arrival from Zenith on 14 April 2014, saying he would take over the direction of Rolex SA. The company did not announce a fixed start date: the transfer was to be agreed with then-current CEO Gian Riccardo Marini. WatchTime reproduced the announcement.

Rolex’s company history dates the handover to June 2015 and describes Dufour as the sixth CEO to lead the brand. The announcement and the transition are therefore separate milestones: announced in April 2014, assumed in June 2015. Rolex’s official history provides the succession date.

Who is Jean-Frédéric Dufour?

Rolex says Dufour studied Commercial and Industrial Science/Economics at the University of Geneva, then worked in banking in Hong Kong. After returning to Switzerland, he built a watch-industry career spanning sales, production, marketing, and product development, according to the company’s biography.

Contemporary 2014 reporting by Hodinkee adds that Dufour joined Zenith in 2009 after working at Blancpain, Chopard, and Ulysse Nardin. Rolex’s history does not name those prior employers, so that detail is attributable to the trade publication rather than the company biography.

What did Rolex say his role would be?

Rolex’s history says Dufour aimed to reinforce the brand’s worldwide status and carry forward a legacy combining tradition, prestige, and technology. That is the company’s account of his stated aims; it should not be confused with an independently measured assessment of his results or proof that he personally caused particular product developments.

What was happening at Rolex around the transition?

Rolex’s timeline records technical milestones in both 2014 and 2015. These provide context for the period, not evidence that Dufour was responsible for the developments.

Is Dufour still Rolex’s CEO?

The available Rolex history establishes his June 2015 succession but does not explicitly confirm his current tenure as of 8 October 2026. It is therefore accurate to call him the CEO appointed in 2015, but not to present “new CEO” as a current appointment or make an unverified claim about who holds the role today.
