A 2023 report raised the possibility that McDonald’s global restructuring could lead to simpler menus, with potential implications for Australia. It did not confirm that any Australian item would be removed or changed. The distinction matters: a company-wide plan to reduce duplication is not proof of a local menu decision.
What did the report say about McDonald’s menu?
PerthNow’s report framed the issue as whether Australia’s menu might change as part of a global operating shake-up. It said CEO Chris Kempczinski had indicated that simplification was possible and attributed to an internal email the view that McDonald’s had too much duplication in its menus. Differences in chicken burger offerings from one country to another were cited as an example.
The article did not name an Australian product due to be removed, specify how many items might be affected, or confirm that a change had been made. Its account therefore supports a possibility—not a confirmed Australian menu change.
What was the company-wide shake-up?
In a message to global employees dated January 6, 2023, McDonald’s described Accelerating the Organization as an effort to modernize how the company works and collaborates. CEO Chris Kempczinski wrote: “Through Accelerating the Organization, we will evolve our culture to foster greater collaboration and develop ‘one McDonald’s way’ to solve problems for our customers and people together.” The message describes an organizational initiative; it does not announce menu changes.

#1 Best Overall
McDonald’s 2023 annual report refers to restructuring costs associated with Accelerating the Organization. It also describes the company’s “Commit to the Core” menu approach and its Best Burger program, which involves operational and formulation changes. These plans provide corporate context, but do not establish that Australia’s menu variation was eliminated.
How does the core menu fit in?
In a December 6, 2023 investor update, McDonald’s said core menu items represented about 65% of systemwide sales. The company also described plans to deploy Best Burger to nearly all markets by 2026. These are company-wide statements about the importance of core items and planned rollout; they do not identify Australian products affected by the earlier menu-simplification discussion.

What is confirmed for Australian customers?
The available reporting and company materials do not confirm which, if any, Australian menu items changed because of the reported shake-up. They also do not provide an item count or a list of affected markets. Without an Australia-specific announcement naming products and explaining whether changes are permanent or limited-time, it is not possible to conclude that a particular burger—or any item—was removed as a result.
