PerthNow reported on 23 October 2025 that Meals on Wheels WA had launched an online GoFundMe with a $10,000 target. The reported needs were basic administration, IT, membership fees and trademark protection. At the time of the interview, the article described the state organization as volunteer-run and without a paid staff member; that is a report about the organization then, not a confirmed description of its present staffing.
WA president Cath Hewitt said local meal deliveries would continue if the state peak body closed, but support for providers could be lost: “People will still be getting meals, it’s just that the support we provide to service providers could be lost,” she said. Hewitt also invited potential corporate sponsors: “Any organisation or corporation that would like to sponsor Meals on Wheels WA, I am all ears.” Both comments were reported by PerthNow.
The story did not establish whether the appeal remains open or whether it reached its target. A past target should not be treated as a current fundraising need or as a final amount raised. Anyone considering a donation or sponsorship should first confirm the current status and official payment route with Meals on Wheels WA.

Which part of Meals on Wheels does the WA organization support?
“Meals on Wheels” describes a network with distinct roles. Local providers prepare or arrange meal delivery and may also check on recipients. Meals on Wheels WA is the state peak body, supporting member services and representing their interests. Meals on Wheels Australia is the national federated advocacy body. PerthNow reported that local services included councils, hospitals and community organizations.
The WA organization’s current website describes 90 service locations and says services provide meals, social engagement and wellbeing checks. Its FAQ and local service directory direct prospective customers to local providers. The fundraiser concerned the peak body’s capacity to support the network; it was not presented as a way to purchase meals for a particular recipient.

That distinction matters when looking for help. For a meal service, use the WA directory to contact the provider serving your area. Eligibility, fees and delivery schedules depend on that provider. The WA FAQ says prospective recipients seeking subsidised meals should contact My Aged Care; it also notes that independent services may rely on donations and customer contributions.
How aged-care reform relates to the appeal
The Australian National Audit Office’s 27 May 2025 audit of the Future Fit Program describes the Commonwealth’s Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) as a grants program supporting services for older Australians, including meals. The audit said CHSP was due to transition into Support at Home no earlier than 1 July 2027. Under the planned fee-for-service approach, providers would invoice government after delivering services. That was a planned future transition in the 2025 audit, not a change that had already taken place.
The audit’s figures also show why the state peak body and local delivery should not be conflated. Nationally, 135 of 540 CHSP meal providers were affiliated with the Meals on Wheels brand in 2023–24, and Meals on Wheels providers received $45.4 million in CHSP grants that year. Those are network-wide figures, not amounts received by Meals on Wheels WA or its state peak body.
The ANAO also recorded the government’s 2021 decision to raise the CHSP minimum meals unit price to $7.50. Separately, it cited a 2020 Deloitte Access Economics estimate of $6.20 to $11.50 per delivered meal, including government grants and consumer contributions. These are historical policy figures, not current meal prices or a description of what an individual WA customer will pay.

Meals on Wheels Australia has argued for retaining and expanding CHSP as a standalone program. A media release dated 5 February 2026, republished on the WA site on 15 April 2026, warns of harm from integrating the program into Support at Home. That is the national body’s advocacy position, not an independent evaluation of the reform’s effects.
