McKenzie’s frozen corn is creamed corn sold in a 20-ounce tube-shaped package. The “Southern grocery store” part of the mystery is less certain: one retailer describes its golden version as “Southern style,” but available listings do not establish that the product is sold only in the South.
What is McKenzie’s frozen corn?
It is a frozen creamed-corn side dish, not plain kernels that need to be mixed with a sauce. Conagra’s SmartLabel identifies a 20 oz (567 g) package of McKenzie’s White Creamed Corn, UPC 038897489509. Lowes Foods lists a 20 oz package of McKenzie’s Golden Creamed Corn and labels it “Southern style.” Publix and Kroger also list the white version under Birds Eye McKenzie’s branding.
The tube-shaped package is a recognizable format, but the available product information does not explain why it is packaged that way or who introduced it.
Can you buy it only at Southern grocery stores?
That claim is not established by the available listings. Lowes Foods uses the phrase “Southern style. The original!” for its golden creamed corn listing; that is retailer wording, not proof of a particular origin or exclusive regional distribution. Listings at Publix and Kroger show the white version in grocery catalogs, but retailer listings do not establish a complete distribution map, and stock can vary by location.

To look for it, search grocery sites for the specific name—McKenzie’s White Creamed Corn or McKenzie’s Golden Creamed Corn—and check local store inventory. The evidence available does not confirm that either version is sold nationwide, nor that it is limited to the South.
White and golden versions are not interchangeable on the label
The two listed varieties have similar ingredient lists, but their reported sugar figures differ. The following values are per 1/2 cup serving; nutrition information can change, so check the package you buy.

| Version and source | Package | Ingredients listed | Calories | Sodium | Total sugars |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| White Creamed Corn, Conagra Brands SmartLabel, updated March 28, 2025 | 20 oz (567 g) | Corn, water, high fructose corn syrup, modified corn starch, salt | 110 per 1/2 cup (108 g) | 260 mg per 1/2 cup (108 g) | 9 g per 1/2 cup (108 g) |
| Golden Creamed Corn, Lowes Foods listing | 20 oz | Corn, water, high fructose corn syrup, modified food starch, salt | 110 per 1/2 cup | 260 mg per 1/2 cup | 11 g per 1/2 cup |
The listed ingredients are close but not worded identically, and the golden listing reports 11 g of total sugars versus 9 g on the 2025 SmartLabel for the white version. Those figures belong to the respective product pages; they are not a basis for assuming one variety tastes sweeter or is more authentic.
How to cook the frozen corn tube
Product instructions for the 20 oz frozen package call for loosening the wrapper with warm water, then heating the corn after removing the wrapper. They specify heating to at least 165°F. Follow the directions on your own package if they differ.

What is—and isn’t—known about the tube
The product information identifies the corn, package size, variants, ingredients, nutrition, and heating directions. It does not establish when McKenzie’s creamed corn was invented, why the package is tube-shaped, or the product’s full current distribution footprint. Treat claims about its history or Southern exclusivity as unverified unless a source supports them.
