BlockDAG announced that it planned to reveal its CEO, executive team, and advisory board on July 29, 2024, but its official reveal article was published on July 31. The announcement offers no evidence that the disclosure threatened Optimism or Tron: a leadership reveal alone cannot establish a network’s competitive position, adoption, security, or performance.
What BlockDAG announced
In a July 22, 2024 post, BlockDAG Network said it would reveal its CEO, executive team, and advisory board on July 29. It described the disclosure as answering the community’s “number one question” and also announced a CEO AMA for July 30. Read the July 22 announcement.
The dates need to be distinguished: July 29 was the date BlockDAG announced for the reveal; the project’s reveal article and official archive are dated July 31. The sources do not explain whether an event occurred on July 29 or why the article appeared two days later. The reveal article and the official blog archive establish the later publication date, not the reason for the discrepancy.
What the reveal can—and cannot—show
The July 31 article presents BlockDAG’s leadership and advisory board and frames making those names public as a transparency and trust measure. That is the project’s own interpretation. Publishing leadership information can help readers investigate who is associated with a project, but it does not by itself verify credentials, governance practices, or the quality of the network.

For someone assessing a crypto project financially, the useful next step is independent verification of named people’s relevant experience and roles. The reveal itself is not proof of technical capability, operational execution, or investment merit.
Does this establish a threat to Optimism or Tron?
No. The team announcement contains no like-for-like evidence that BlockDAG is outperforming, displacing, or otherwise changing the competitive position of Optimism or Tron. It does not establish a threat to either network.

A serious comparison would need independently sourced and consistently dated evidence, such as verified leadership credentials, live functionality, security history, developer activity, user and transaction activity, and technical performance measured under comparable conditions. The sources cited here do not provide that comparison, so they cannot support a ranking or a claim of competitive impact.

BlockDAG’s July 22 announcement said the project had raised “over $60 million,” priced BDAG at $0.015, and planned a 40% presale price increase after the reveal. Its July 31 article stated that $62.3 million had been raised and repeated the planned increase. These are promotional statements by BlockDAG, not independently verified measures of proceeds, market value, future returns, or project quality. A planned presale price change is not evidence of a realized market price or an investment gain.

BlockDAG’s current site describes the project as a Layer 1 proof-of-work system using a directed acyclic graph structure. Its documentation describes BDAG as the native cryptocurrency used for transactions, smart-contract execution, and network security. These are the project’s descriptions; the cited material does not independently audit network performance or establish that the described utility is delivering a competitive advantage.
