The studio had been developing a planned science-fiction game, but said it could not complete that universe.
What happened to Humanoid Origin?
Humanoid Origin announced its closure on November 25, 2024. Hudson formed the studio in 2021 as Humanoid Studios; it later operated under the name Humanoid Origin. Engadget describes Hudson as a former BioWare general manager and the creator of Mass Effect. Engadget’s November 25, 2024 report and VGC’s report cover the announcement.
The studio gave a direct reason: “An unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations.” That is the explanation Humanoid Origin offered. The reports do not name an investor, describe a financing negotiation, or establish a more specific cause.
What game was the studio making?
In March 2022, Humanoid Studios announced a multiplatform AAA game set in an original science-fiction universe and focused on character-driven narrative, as reported by Gematsu. Humanoid Origin later said it was “heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion.” The available reports do not give the game a public title or provide a detailed gameplay description.

What did the studio say about its employees?
Humanoid Origin said its main concern was its team and that it was committed to supporting employees as they moved to new employment. That was the studio’s stated commitment; the cited reports do not establish what happened to individual employees or whether every person received that support.

The confirmed news is the November 25, 2024 closure announcement and the studio’s stated funding shortfall. The reports used here do not establish the exact date operations ended or the studio’s legal dissolution, the amount of funding it lacked, or who now holds rights to the unfinished game. The announcement is a 2024 event, not a new closure reported in 2026.
