The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) Multi-Year Accessibility Plan (2022–2026) is an organizational plan describing accessibility requirements, actions and reported statuses—not a general guide for nurses. The document was last reviewed on December 7, 2023, so its status labels should be read as statements recorded at that time, not as verified outcomes through 2026.

What the ONA accessibility plan covers

ONA’s plan organizes its actions under general requirements, information and communication standards, employment standards, design of public spaces, and customer-service standards. It assigns work to functions including Human Resources, Communications, Building Services, and Finance and Administration, along with applicable stakeholders. The official plan PDF is linked from ONA’s accessibility webpage.

The plan uses the statuses “Complete,” “Complete and Ongoing,” “Ongoing,” and “N/A at this time.” These are the labels printed in a plan last reviewed December 7, 2023; they do not independently establish later implementation or current conditions.

Examples of actions listed in the plan

Training and organizational policy

The plan lists AODA and Ontario Human Rights Code training for employees, with training records, as “Complete and Ongoing.” It also addresses instruction for employees and volunteers on handling feedback.

Accessible communication

ONA lists customer-feedback resources and an alternate-format request and form. The plan’s notes also address accessible emergency and public-safety information and accessible versions of e-learning.

Employment accommodations

Employment-related items include accessible recruitment and selection, notices to successful applicants, information for employees about available supports, workplace emergency-response information, documented individual accommodation plans, and return-to-work processes. The plan marks many of these items “Complete and Ongoing” or “Ongoing.”

Customer service and physical access

The customer-service section addresses service animals and support persons, notices about service disruptions, accessible document formats, and staff training. In the design-of-public-spaces section, some items are marked “N/A at this time.” That status applies to those listed items; it does not mean ONA has no accessibility obligations or that all of its physical spaces were assessed on that basis.

What the plan says about website accessibility

The plan marks its statement about conforming to WCAG 2.0 Level AA by January 1, 2016 as complete. It also reproduces an older website statement that the site aims to comply with WCAG 2.0 Level A. ONA’s current accessibility webpage likewise says the website aims to comply with WCAG 2.0 Level A. These are ONA’s stated positions, not the result of an independent accessibility audit; they do not establish current conformance to either level.

How to request an alternate format or ask about website compliance

ONA says general communications can be made available in alternate formats on request, within a reasonable time and in a mutually agreed format. Its accessibility webpage links an Alternate Format Request Form and an Accessibility Standards Record of Customer Feedback Form.

  1. Visit ONA’s accessibility webpage and open the Alternate Format Request Form to request an alternate format.
  2. For questions about website compliance, contact ONA’s Human Resources Department at [email protected] or call 1-800-387-5580.

How to interpret the 2022–2026 label

The date range identifies the plan’s planning period, not proof that every action was reassessed or completed through 2026. The document’s stated last review is December 7, 2023, and ONA’s current accessibility webpage does not provide a replacement item-by-item status table. For a current status beyond what the plan records, contact ONA directly.
