You can make money flipping websites on Flippa by buying or building an online asset, improving it or documenting its performance, then selling it to a buyer. Profit is possible, not assured: Flippa’s materials explain its marketplace process, but do not establish that a typical beginner will earn a profit or that any particular site will sell.
What website flipping involves
A website flip is a business transaction, not simply a domain sale. The asset may include a domain, website content or code, monetization, operating procedures, and—in some cases—customer or supplier relationships and transferable accounts or licenses. Define the exact sale scope early; only include items you own and can legally transfer.
Your potential return depends on what you pay or invest, the asset’s operating costs and workload, and the price and terms a buyer ultimately accepts. There is no universal profit multiple that guarantees a successful exit.
Prepare the business and its evidence
Before listing, make the asset understandable to someone who has never operated it. Organize records that support your claims about revenue, expenses, traffic, workload, and how the business runs. Flippa’s seller guide outlines preparation, valuation, listing, listing improvements, offer acceptance, and escrow as stages of its selling process: Flippa seller guide.

Match the evidence to the asset
The buyer’s questions depend on the business model. Flippa’s 2026 ecommerce guide identifies revenue, traffic, customer service, inventory management, and supplier relationships as areas buyers may examine. Its broader business-sale guide lists examples of supporting records such as monthly financials, reconciled bank and payment-processor statements, tax returns, analytics exports, supplier or affiliate contracts, proof of intellectual-property ownership, and standard operating procedures. These are Flippa’s guidance, not a universal legal checklist; share only records relevant to the asset and protect personal or customer information.
Make a clear distinction between historical results and forecasts. Keep source documents available for reasonable buyer questions, and be prepared to explain how much time the business requires from its owner.
Estimate value and choose an asking price
Flippa’s onboarding guide says its valuation process asks about asset type and revenue model, URL, start date, weekly owner hours, annual revenue and expenses, and signals such as traffic, repeat business, and social-media presence. Flippa says its tool uses historical transaction data and cross-references seller inputs; that description is the platform’s own account of its method, not an independent audit of the estimate. See Flippa’s seller onboarding guide, updated June 11, 2024.

Treat an automated estimate as an indication, not a guaranteed sale price. Reconcile the underlying figures, understand the profit and owner workload a buyer would actually acquire, and compare the asset with relevant businesses and current buyer demand before setting an asking price. A multiple from one category or period should not be applied automatically to another kind of site.

Choose a sale route and account for listing costs
Flippa’s pricing page, observed October 8, 2026, listed these self-service packages. Package features differ, and the listed prices are not a promise that no other transaction charges apply.
| Self-service package | Listed price | Listing period |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | $29 | 60 days |
| Boosted | $49 | Three months |
| Premium | $199 | Six months |
These are Flippa’s observed package prices, not a complete quote for every asset or sale path. Features and terms can change; check the current Flippa pricing page and the terms for your specific listing, including whether any additional or success fees apply.
Flippa’s 2026 ecommerce guide says its process routes businesses valued below $100,000 to self-service tools and businesses at or above $100,000 to a broker. That is the platform’s stated approach in that guide, not a rule that guarantees how every listing will be handled. A more complex or higher-value asset may make broker support worth considering, but compare the service scope, costs, confidentiality needs, and who will coordinate diligence and negotiation before choosing.
Create a credible listing and verify your account
Explain the business model, what is included in the sale, how it earns money, and what evidence supports its performance. Label projections as projections rather than presenting them as achieved results. Flippa’s onboarding guide, updated June 11, 2024, says users provide profile identity verification and that verification is requested for registered buyers and sellers. Because platform procedures may change, confirm the current steps directly with Flippa before relying on that description.

Evaluate offers beyond the headline price
Compare the full proposal, not just the top-line amount. Flippa’s business-sale guide recommends considering price and terms and preparing for buyer diligence. Relevant differences can include payment structure, conditions, diligence requirements, which assets and accounts transfer, the expected timetable, and any transition help the seller must provide. A higher offer may be less attractive if it has more conditions or requires a larger transfer or longer seller commitment.

Flippa’s Help Center page, dated August 27, 2012, says Escrow.com is available for most transactions when both users are in supported countries. The same page describes FlippaPay as an escrow-like Trolley Payments service for transactions above US$10,000 or when offered by invitation, requiring completed identity checks and a signed Asset Purchase Agreement; it also says the service is not available for all transactions. Those are arrangements stated on an older help page, so verify current availability, eligibility, and transaction instructions for the actual deal before proceeding: Flippa Help Center: Payment options.
Use the purchase agreement to define the transfer. Flippa’s 2026 ecommerce guide lists possible handover items such as passwords, domain and hosting access, accounts and files, financial records, customer data, branding, and payment processors. The list is illustrative, not a direction to transfer everything: transfer only what the agreement includes and what can lawfully be transferred.

How long can a Flippa sale take?
Flippa’s 2026 ecommerce guide reports a median close time of 84 days for deals of $1 million or more, based on Flippa transaction data. That figure applies to the guide’s seven-figure deal category, not to small website flips. A separate Flippa business-sale guide says organized sales often take 8–12 weeks but does not define the cohort behind that estimate. Neither figure predicts how long an individual listing will take to find a buyer, pass diligence, and close.
In the ecommerce guide, Flippa broker Nick Carlucci describes seven-figure transactions this way: “The seven-figure end of this market is not slow, it’s thorough. I’m matching million-dollar deals with buyers in under a month. What takes time is diligence, and that’s time well spent for everyone at the table,” Nick says. His comment concerns the broker’s seven-figure deals, not a general timeline for listings. The guide was published October 2, 2026: How to Sell an Ecommerce Business (2026 Edition).
