No shared $5-a-month cut is confirmed. An October 2026 comparison says the reviewed Koodo, Virgin Plus and Fido BYOD plan prices and data tiers were unchanged from September. The carriers do have live offers, but the available details do not establish that all three reduced the same plans by $5. Prices and eligibility can vary by province and customer, so check the carrier’s terms before switching.

What the October plan comparison shows

The October 2026 comparison reports these Ontario/national headline prices in Canadian dollars per month for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) plans, after applicable autopay discounts. It says Quebec pricing differs. The comparison describes no price or data-tier changes from September for the offers it reviewed; these figures are a dated snapshot, not a guarantee that every customer can get them.

Carrier Plan Monthly price in the October comparison Noted details
Fido 20GB $45 BYOD; after autopay discount
Fido 60GB $50 BYOD; after autopay discount
Fido 60GB Canada-US-Mexico $55 Includes roaming for 12 months
Virgin Plus 20GB $45 BYOD; after autopay discount
Virgin Plus 60GB $50 BYOD; after autopay discount
Virgin Plus 60GB Canada-US-Mexico $55 BYOD; after autopay discount
Koodo 10GB student offer $40 Eligibility is limited to the student offer
Koodo 20GB $45 BYOD
Koodo 60GB $50 BYOD
Koodo 60GB Canada-US-Mexico $55 International calling included for two years
Koodo 100GB $60 BYOD

The comparison does not provide a previous price for each plan, so these figures cannot establish a $5 reduction. See the October 2026 comparison for its dated snapshot.

What the carriers’ live pages say

Koodo

Koodo’s official page displays a 60GB Canada-US-Mexico BYOD plan for $55 a month. The page also advertises device offers, including one identified device promotion ending October 30, 2026. That device deadline does not establish when a plan-price reduction ends or prove a general $5 plan cut. Check Koodo’s current offers for the terms that apply to your address and account.

Virgin Plus

Virgin Plus advertises BYOD plans with 20GB for $40 a month and 60GB for $50 a month. The company says these offers are “Available on new activations when you bring your own phone. Includes Autopay credit.” The $40 offer ends October 13, 2026. To keep the Autopay credit, its footnote requires pre-authorized debit payments to be set up within 31 days of the order. These are offer terms, not evidence that the same plans were reduced by $5 for existing customers. Review Virgin Plus plans and offers before signing up.

Fido

Fido advertises plans starting at $25 a month after its Automatic Payments Discount and describes Canada-wide 5G. The starting price is not directly comparable with the plans in the October snapshot unless you also confirm the data allowance and eligibility. Fido says offers can change without notice. Its promotions page also lists device financing, trade-in and travel-pass products; those do not confirm a shared monthly plan-price cut. Check Fido’s plan page and promotions page for current terms.

How to check whether a $5 reduction applies to you

A headline price can depend on more than the carrier. Before switching, compare the exact plan and the cost you will actually pay:

  • Match the plan: Confirm the data allowance, speed, and whether the offer is BYOD or requires a device purchase.
  • Check eligibility: Look for province, new-activation, student, and existing-customer restrictions. The October comparison specifically notes that Quebec prices differ.
  • Include payment discounts: Find out whether the displayed price requires Autopay or another automatic-payment method, when it must be set up, and whether the credit can expire or be removed.
  • Read the full inclusions: Compare roaming destinations and duration, hotspot use, and international calling or texting. Similar data amounts do not necessarily mean similar service.
  • Verify the promotion dates: Distinguish a plan offer’s expiry from a device promotion’s deadline, and confirm whether any discount is temporary or recurring.
  • For a claimed $5 cut, compare like with like: The carrier should identify the exact plan’s previous and current monthly prices and say whether the lower price applies to new activations, existing subscribers, or both.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
