What the KOE083 syllabus covers
The VBSPU detailed syllabus divides Entrepreneurship Development into five units and assigns eight proposed lectures to each. Its scope goes beyond writing a business plan: it includes accounting, production and inventory control, finance, risk, and laws and support agencies. The syllabus source does not establish that this is AKTU’s latest revision, so check your current university or department notice for the applicable version. Read the VBSPU detailed syllabus.

Unit 1: Entrepreneurship and small-scale industries
Study entrepreneurship, the qualities and role of an entrepreneur, and small-scale industries and their place in the economy. Past papers have asked students to compare small- and large-scale industries and explain the national economic role of small-scale industries.
Unit 2: Project identification and appraisal
Prepare for project identification, demand analysis, field study and information gathering, project viability, and appraisal methods. The syllabus includes benefit-cost analysis, discounted cash flow, internal rate of return (IRR), and net present value (NPV). These concepts support questions such as “How does it help assess economic viability?”—a prompt about benefit-cost analysis in the 2024–25 paper.

Unit 3: Accountancy and operating controls
Revise balance sheets and financial analysis alongside operating controls such as quality, inventory, and production control. Past questions include balance sheets, inventory control, wages, and quality control; practise explaining what each measure is used to assess, not just defining terms.
Unit 4: Project planning and financial control
Cover project planning, financial planning and control, cost of capital, financial flows, and risk. Be ready to distinguish concepts and explain how they inform a project decision. The 2024–25 paper includes project planning, risk, financial control, and “Define cost of capital.”

Unit 5: Laws and support agencies
Study the syllabus topics on laws relevant to entrepreneurs and government support policies and agencies. Past papers include partnership, income tax, and workman compensation. Exam references are academic prompts, not current legal guidance: use up-to-date official sources for present-day tax rates, compliance obligations, or employment rules.
Important topics to prioritize from the syllabus and past papers
Start with complete syllabus coverage, then give extra practice to areas that recur in the papers reviewed. Recurrence is a useful revision signal, not a guarantee of exam frequency.

- Used Book in Good Condition
- Project appraisal: demand analysis, economic viability, benefit-cost analysis, discounted cash flow, IRR, and NPV.
- Project documentation: project identification, feasibility reports, project reports, field study, and information gathering.
- Small-scale industries: comparison with large-scale industries, their role in the economy, and demand-based versus resource-based industries.
- Financial and operating controls: balance sheets, cost of capital, financial flows, inventory, quality control, wages, and risk.
- Entrepreneur support and law: government policies and agencies, partnership, and the syllabus’s tax and employment-law topics.
The 2024–25 paper uses prompts including “Compare demand-based and resource-based industries” and “Explain the difference between ‘Feasibility report’ and ‘Project report’.” Use their wording to practise direct, structured responses, while still preparing the rest of the syllabus.
A practical revision plan
- Map the five units. Use the syllabus to make a checklist of concepts, methods, and terms in every unit. This prevents exam-paper repetition from narrowing your preparation too far.
- Practise short answers. Write concise definitions and distinctions for terms such as entrepreneur, cost of capital, IRR, NPV, balance sheet, and feasibility report. The 2024–25 paper allocates 20 marks to ten two-mark questions.
- Work appraisal and finance examples. Practise the steps and interpretation for demand analysis, benefit-cost analysis, discounted cash flow, IRR, and NPV. Explain what a result indicates about viability rather than presenting a calculation without interpretation.
- Prepare long-answer outlines. For each major topic, organize an answer around a definition or purpose, method or comparison, and implications for a project or enterprise. Then expand the outline under timed conditions.
- Use past papers as practice, not prediction. Attempt the 2024–25 paper and older papers to get used to the format and question wording. Check that your revision still covers all five units.
- Verify legal material and course version. Treat tax, partnership, and employment-law questions as syllabus material; check current official sources if you need present-day rules. Confirm the syllabus version and exam instructions with your department.
Books named in the syllabus
The VBSPU syllabus lists three texts: John Forbat, Entrepreneurship; Veerbhadrappa Havinal, Management and Entrepreneurship; and Joseph L. Massod, Essentials of Management. They are listed as course texts, not as a claim that any one book alone covers every current exam requirement. Verify the edition and whether your department adopts it before buying.
