The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association postponed a planned October 10 wheel-jam strike on October 6. The nationwide stoppage that began in August had been deferred after nine days, but reports differ on which organization ended or deferred its action. Industry leaders warned that stoppages could delay factory inputs and export shipments; reviewed reports do not establish a verified loss total.
Is cargo movement in Karachi disrupted now?
The latest update available as of October 8 is that the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association postponed a wheel-jam strike planned for October 10. ProPakistani reported on October 6 that the association would decide its next steps after the PTI sit-in situation and long march. That confirms a postponed planned action, not an active strike on October 8. The report does not establish whether a later stoppage occurred or affected Karachi cargo.
Pakistan Single Window’s PortVerse page showed scheduled vessel movements around October 8 at Karachi and Port Qasim terminals. Scheduled ship calls are not proof of normal landside cargo throughput: a vessel timetable cannot establish whether trucks, container deliveries, or inland freight are moving without disruption.
What happened during the August stoppage?
The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance announced a nationwide strike beginning August 8 after negotiations failed. On August 9, Dawn reported that goods transporters and oil tankers had begun affecting industrial and export supply chains. Alliance chairman Nisar Hussain Jafry told Dawn, “our countrywide strike will continue as our leadership intends to meet the ministers concerned with petroleum, transport and ports on Monday”. Dawn also reported his claim that more than 400,000 goods-carrying vehicles had suspended movement; that was an attributed statement, not an independently verified count.

- Durable Material: Made from heavy-duty ABS plastic
- Waterproof Seal: Rubber gasket ensures no rainwater enters.
- Smart Design: Downward-tilting holes prevent water ingress.
- Enhanced Airflow: Improves container ventilation, reducing heat and humidity.
- Easy Installation: Quick and simple to install with 3 bolts.
On August 11, the alliance said the strike would continue after talks failed. Transporters had parked vehicles at Port Qasim, affecting goods movement and port operations. On August 17, The Express Tribune reported that the nine-day stoppage had been deferred for 40 days and vehicle operations would resume. Alliance president Malik Shahzad Awan said, “The strike is not being ended but deferred for 40 days,” adding that some demands had been addressed while others still required government or cabinet action.
Why reports describe the end differently
The accounts do not present one agreed timeline. The Associated Press of Pakistan reported on August 14 that the Pakistan Transport Council had called off its strike, that 15 organizations signed an agreement, and that cargo movement at Karachi Port and Port Qasim was restored. The Express Tribune’s August 17 account attributed the nine-day stoppage to the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance and described its action as deferred, not ended. The organizations and descriptions differ, so these reports should not be treated as interchangeable accounts of a single decision.

What transporters were demanding
Transporters said daily fuel-price changes made it hard to agree on freight charges for trips that take one to three days. Their broader demands, as reported by Dawn and The Express Tribune, included:
- Returning to monthly fuel pricing.
- Reducing withholding tax from 7% to 2%.
- Lower or frozen toll charges.
- Better heavy-vehicle parking.
- Changes involving licensing, axle-load rules, and vehicle-seizure practices.
How a road-freight strike can affect factories and exports
The August stoppage was a road-transport action, not a port-worker strike. When trucks stop or are parked, goods can be held up between ports, warehouses, suppliers, and factories even if ships continue to be scheduled or handled.

- Boost Ventilation: Shipping containers often suffer from humidity, passive heat, and condensation due to poor ventilation, which can damage stored goods. Shipping container air vent kit provide additional passive cross ventilation, greatly increasing air circulation inside the container and preventing passive heat, humidity, and condensation
- Perfect Fit: Transportation container vents are designed specifically for the corrugated side walls of 20" containers, using the space within the corrugations to improve airflow and increase ventilation
- Minimal Modifications: Shipping container air vents is made to precisely fit and fit snuggly without the need for welding or heavy cutting. Compared with other vents, it makes less changes to the container structure and reduce the risk of leaking and cargo blocking the vents
- Well Made: Made of high-quality galvanized steel (outer layer) and perforated aluminum mesh (inner layer), this construction ensures durability in high-humidity and high-salt environments. It prevents dust from entering, keeping the container interior dry and clean
- Installation Suggestion: Install two vents at the lower side of one face of the container and two vents at the upper side of the opposite face. This arrangement maximizes air circulation by using height differences to allow cool air to enter from below and hot air to exit from above
SITE Association of Industry president Abdul Rehman Fudda warned that production relies on timely raw-material deliveries and dispatch of finished goods. He said: “The entire production system depends on timely supply of raw materials and delivery of finished goods. If factories fail to receive essential inputs, production will stall, while delays in dispatching finished products will worsen financial stress for industries,” Dawn reported. Fudda warned that late export consignments could also expose companies to penalties, price cuts, or damage claims.
Korangi Association of Trade and Industry president Muhammad Ikram Rajput separately warned that the prolonged strike was disrupting movement of raw materials, finished products, industrial equipment, essential commodities, and other goods. These are industry representatives’ warnings about possible or reported disruption; the available reporting does not quantify realized output losses, export losses, layoffs, or financial damages from this specific stoppage.

What the port figures do—and do not—show
A Pakistan Customs release published by the Government Press Information Department said that from July 1–25, 2026, Karachi terminals SAPT and KICT recorded 56 combined vessel calls, compared with 49 in the same period a year earlier. SAPT handled 52,314 TEUs, up 12.0%. The release described a trade-activity surge and congestion context. These July figures predate the August stoppage and are not measures of strike impact or proof of cargo losses caused by the strike.
What to check before making a business decision
For a shipment, production schedule, or cash-flow decision, a headline about a “strike” is not enough. Check the update’s date and identify the transport organization quoted; determine whether it says an action is active, called off, deferred, or postponed; and confirm whether it applies to Karachi, Port Qasim, or a wider area. Separately verify the status of the specific truck movement, terminal, or carrier involved. Port calls and scheduled vessel movements alone do not confirm that inland cargo is moving normally.
