Re:

Did Kaley Cuoco Walk Away With $98 Million in Her Divorce?

The AU$98 million headline traces to a reported earnings estimate converted from US$72 million, not a divorce award. Here’s how the Sweeting and Cook cases differ.

No published report in the available coverage says Kaley Cuoco received a $98 million divorce payout. The figure traces to an Australian article’s conversion of a reported US$72 million in The Big Bang Theory earnings into AU$98 million—and that article said the earnings were protected by Cuoco’s prenup with Ryan Sweeting. The figure is best understood as a reported earnings estimate, not money awarded to her in the divorce.

Where the $98 million figure came from

In May 2016, International Business Times Australia reported that Cuoco had earned US$72 million from The Big Bang Theory, attributing that estimate to TMZ. The Australian article rendered the amount as AU$98 million and said the earnings were protected under Cuoco’s prenuptial agreement with Sweeting. International Business Times Australia’s account is secondary reporting: it is not an audited accounting, a verified net-worth figure, or a court finding that Cuoco received AU$98 million in the divorce.

That distinction matters because a reported amount of earnings protected from division is not the same thing as a payment made under a divorce settlement. The report does not describe a $98 million award to Cuoco.

What reporting says about the Sweeting divorce

Cuoco filed for divorce from tennis player Ryan Sweeting in 2015, and their divorce was finalized in 2016. E! reported in September 2015 that the petition disclosed a prenup signed November 20, 2013, while noting that the agreement’s terms had not been released. E!’s report on the filing does not establish what the prenup protected.

When reporting the finalized divorce in 2016, International Business Times Australia summarized terms it attributed to court documents obtained by People. It reported that Sweeting was to receive US$165,000 in two installments, up to US$55,000 toward attorney fees, US$9,387 in outstanding legal-service charges related to the prenup, and US$195,000 for personal trainers. Those are figures reported by that outlet, not independently verified here against the underlying judgment or documents.

A later legal commentary summarized the judgment as leaving Cuoco with the Tarzana and Santa Barbara homes and her other listed assets, while Sweeting waived spousal support and received the reported payments. The legal commentary is secondary analysis, not the judgment itself. Taken together, these accounts describe separate settlement terms; they do not turn the reported earnings estimate into a $98 million divorce payout.

Do not confuse the Sweeting case with Cuoco’s later divorce

Cuoco’s divorce from Sweeting is separate from her later divorce from equestrian Karl Cook. Cuoco and Cook announced their separation in September 2021. ET reported that Cuoco asked to keep her personal earnings and that neither party sought spousal support; ET later reported that their divorce was finalized in June 2022. ET’s separation report and its report on the finalized divorce concern the Cook case, not the Sweeting settlement.

Case Reported timeline What the money reporting says
Ryan Sweeting Filed in 2015; finalized in 2016 A 2016 secondary report attributed a US$72 million Big Bang Theory earnings estimate to TMZ, converted it to AU$98 million, and said a prenup protected the earnings. The same outlet separately reported settlement payments to Sweeting.
Karl Cook Separation announced in 2021; divorce finalized in 2022 ET reported that Cuoco asked to keep her personal earnings and that neither party sought spousal support. The cited reports do not establish a $98 million transfer.

What can—and cannot—be concluded

  • The AU$98 million headline figure appears to be a currency conversion of a reported US$72 million earnings estimate.
  • Secondary reporting said the earnings were protected by Cuoco’s prenup with Sweeting, but the available coverage does not establish that the court made a finding about those earnings.
  • Published accounts report other Sweeting settlement terms, including payments to him and homes and assets attributed to Cuoco; those details should be treated as reported summaries rather than a direct review of the judgment.
  • The Cook divorce was a different case. Its reporting about earnings and spousal support does not verify or explain the AU$98 million figure.
