It adds more legroom and recline than standard Economy, along with a distinct meal service and airport-priority benefits described by KLM. Whether it is worth the extra fare depends on the price difference for your flight—and on what your ticket includes for baggage and seat selection.
1. It is a separate cabin, not an Economy seat upgrade
Premium Comfort sits between Economy and Business, in its own cabin area. KLM says the cabin has 21 to 28 seats, depending on the aircraft. That separate space can offer more privacy than Economy, but the layout and seat availability depend on the aircraft assigned to your flight. Check the seat map for your specific booking rather than assuming every aircraft has the same configuration. KLM’s Premium Comfort seat details
2. The seat gives you more room, but it does not lie flat
KLM’s published class comparison lists Premium Comfort at 97 cm of legroom and up to 20 cm of recline. For comparison, KLM lists standard Economy at 79 cm of legroom and 12.5 cm of recline, and Economy Comfort at 89 cm and 15–18 cm of recline. KLM describes Business as fully flat; Premium Comfort is not a lie-flat seat. These are airline-published specifications, and actual layouts can vary by aircraft. KLM’s travel-class comparison
KLM’s seat page also lists 48–50 cm between armrests, a movable leg and footrest, in-seat power and a 13.3-inch personal screen. The page describes up to 18 cm more legroom than standard Economy. Those details may matter on a long flight, but they do not make Premium Comfort equivalent to Business: consider whether extra sitting space is enough for your needs or whether a fully flat bed is important to you. 3. The intercontinental meal service is more than a single meal
For intercontinental Premium Comfort flights, KLM describes a welcome drink and small bite, followed by dinner with three choices, two of them hot. Dinner includes salad, bread and butter; selected wines and liqueurs are also listed. Passengers can have hot and cold drinks and snacks during the flight, then a second meal or snack before landing, depending on the flight time. These are KLM’s stated service details, not a guarantee for every operating carrier or flight. KLM’s Premium Comfort meal details
Dietary meals and allergies
On intercontinental flights, KLM says you can request a dietary meal when booking or later through My Trip. The request is per flight and covers the main meal, not snacks. KLM asks for at least 24 hours’ notice for most dietary meals and 48 hours for kosher meals. For flights within Europe, KLM says it cannot provide meals for specific dietary needs. If you have an allergy, check KLM’s current guidance and ask the crew about snack ingredients. KLM’s dietary meal information

4. Baggage and seat selection depend on the fare
The cabin label alone does not tell you what is included. KLM’s intercontinental fare examples distinguish between Light, Standard and Flex tickets:
| Intercontinental Premium Comfort fare example | Checked baggage | Other ticket conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Light | No checked baggage included | Advance seat choice, changes and refunds depend on the fare conditions. |
| Standard | Two checked bags, up to 23 kg each | Advance seat choice, changes and refunds depend on the fare conditions. |
| Flex | Two checked bags, up to 23 kg each | Advance seat choice, changes and refunds depend on the fare conditions. |
These are KLM’s listed intercontinental examples, not universal rules for every route or operating airline. Check the conditions shown for your own flight before comparing prices; a lower fare may cost more overall if you need to add baggage or other options. KLM’s ticket options

Hand baggage and advance seat choice

KLM notes that an individual flight’s allowance may differ, so confirm it against your booking before packing. KLM’s hand-baggage allowance
Choosing a seat before check-in opens may involve a fee under KLM’s seat-selection terms. Whether advance selection is included depends on the ticket and flight, so check both the fare conditions and the seat-selection rules rather than assuming the cabin fare makes every seat choice free. 5. Airport priority is part of KLM’s cabin description; assess value using your itinerary
KLM’s 27 May 2022 launch announcement associated Premium Comfort with SkyPriority, including preferential check-in and boarding. Confirm which services apply to your booked itinerary. The announcement also positioned the cabin as lower-priced than World Business Class, but that is KLM’s description, not an independently verified price comparison; fares vary by route and date. A practical way to decide if the upgrade is worth it
- Compare the Premium Comfort and Economy prices for the same route and date.
- Compare the full ticket conditions, including checked baggage and any advance seat-selection fee you would otherwise pay.
- Decide whether the added legroom, recline, cabin space and stated service matter enough for the length of your flight.
- If you need a fully flat seat, compare Business rather than treating Premium Comfort as a substitute.
- Check the aircraft, seat map and allowances attached to your booking before paying; these can vary by flight.
