Jim Carrey’s longtime Brentwood home went into contract in December 2024 after its asking price fell from $28.9 million to $19.75 million. Those figures describe the listing and contract stages—not the completed sale: Realtor.com later reported a $17 million final price, while SFGATE’s 2024 coverage reported $19.8 million.

What happened to Jim Carrey’s Brentwood home?

The property at 615 North Tigertail Road in Los Angeles entered contract in December 2024, according to Mansion Global. The buyer’s identity was not disclosed in the sale coverage reviewed. The listing had most recently been asking $19.75 million, but that was not necessarily the amount paid.

Two reports give different figures for the completed sale. SFGATE reported $19.8 million in 2024; a later Realtor.com retrospective gives $17 million. The available reports therefore do not establish a single, uncontested final price. SFGATE’s sale report and Realtor.com’s retrospective should be read as conflicting accounts, not as interchangeable listing figures.

How the asking price changed

The price reductions explain the headline’s rounded “$10 million” cut. From its original $28.9 million asking price in early 2023 to the $19.75 million ask reported in September 2024, the reduction was $9.15 million. That is a change in asking price, not a measure of the home’s market value or the seller’s eventual proceeds.

Stage Reported price What it means
1994 purchase $3.8 million, as reported by SFGATE Reported original purchase price; not an independently verified profit calculation.
Early 2023 initial listing $28.9 million, reported by Mansion Global and Realtor.com Original asking price.
May 2024 $21.9 million, reported by Realtor.com Reduced asking price.
September 2024 $19.75 million, reported by Mansion Global and Realtor.com Asking price when the home was reported to have found a buyer.
Completed sale $19.8 million (SFGATE, 2024); $17 million (Realtor.com, later retrospective) Conflicting reported sale figures; not resolved by the sources cited here.

The figures are reported transaction and listing amounts, not an appraisal. They do not account for selling costs, taxes, improvements, financing, or other details needed to calculate Carrey’s net proceeds or gain.

What was on the property?

Mansion Global described a roughly 10,954-square-foot, five-bedroom house built in 1951 on about two acres. Reported features included a guest house, an Art Deco-style theater, a circular sunroom, a pool with a waterfall, gardens and a tennis court. Realtor.com also mentioned a yoga space and wine cellar.

Mansion Global reported that a large painting by Carrey and his Riddler suit were displayed in the theater, but said those personal items were not included in the home price. The property sale should not be treated as a sale of the memorabilia.

What the price cuts do—and do not—tell you

A lower asking price can make a listing more competitive and may help attract a buyer, but the sequence alone does not reveal why the seller reduced the price or whether the final transaction represented a bargain. Here, the $28.9 million initial ask, $19.75 million contract-stage ask and disputed reported sale prices are distinct figures from different stages of the transaction. They should not be collapsed into one “sale price” or used by themselves to infer financial distress, market value, or profit.
