What was in the original ISAMAYA LIPS launch?
ISAMAYA LIPS launched as two products: Cardinal lipstick and Vanity tinted balm. Nylon’s Laura Pitcher reported the launch on February 2, 2023, in an article updated February 20, 2024. The article describes both products as arriving in refillable penis-shaped cases. Nylon’s launch report is the source for the original packaging and product pairing; current official refill pages should not be read as proof that the original cases are still available.

How do Cardinal and Vanity differ?
Cardinal: a saturated red lipstick
Nylon characterized Cardinal as a true, rich red lipstick with a satin finish. ISAMAYA’s Cardinal refill page describes saturated colour and a lustrous finish and lists the product as 3.0 g / 0.10 oz. The finish wording differs slightly between the publication and the manufacturer, so these descriptions are best treated as reported and brand-published product characterizations—not as results from an independent swatch or wear test.
Vanity: a sheer black tinted balm
Nylon described Vanity as a sheer black tinted balm and noted its gunmetal packaging. The official balm refill page available in the cited product information is for Mortal, not Vanity. It describes a balm texture, sheer colour, glossy shine, and Vitamin E; those current refill details should not be attributed to Vanity’s exact shade or full formula. ISAMAYA lists the sampled balm refill at 3.0 g / 0.10 oz and says it is made in Italy, vegan and cruelty free. Those are manufacturer claims.

What do the current refill pages include?
The official Cardinal and balm pages identify the items as refills and state “LIPS case not included.” A refill purchase therefore should not be assumed to include the sculptural case shown in launch coverage. The sampled balm page also describes packaging materials for that refill—mixed materials including PCR plastic and an aluminium overshell, with FSC cardboard. These material and product claims are ISAMAYA’s, not independently verified findings.
Both cited official pages displayed “Sold Out” when accessed on October 8, 2026. That is a snapshot of those pages on that date, not evidence of permanent discontinuation or stock status in every region. Check the Cardinal page or balm page for the current listing and availability before relying on it.

What can photos tell you—and what can’t they?
Nylon’s article and ISAMAYA’s pages provide editorial or campaign imagery and product descriptions, but the cited material does not establish a personal wear test or original photographs by this reviewer. Images can help show the concept and packaging, but they do not establish how a shade looks on different skin tones or wears over time. No standardized swatch comparison is documented here; lighting and display settings can also affect apparent colour.

Nylon reported that founder Isamaya Ffrench said, in a statement from a brand press release: “I want to inspire people and show them that there are other ways to approach beauty.” Nylon described the campaign as a “sex-positive celebration of independence”; that phrase is the publication’s characterization, not a direct quotation from Ffrench.
