A Bristol City investment deal is possible, but a takeover is not confirmed or known to be imminent. Sky News reported in August 2026 that owner Steve Lansdown was in advanced negotiations with George Daskalakis over a possible minority stake. Days later, chief executive Charlie Boss said potential investment remained speculation until terms were agreed.
What is known about the Bristol City talks?
Sky News reported on 19 August 2026 that George Daskalakis, co-founder and CEO of Kaizen Gaming, was in advanced negotiations with Lansdown to acquire a minority stake in Bristol City. The report also named financier Sandford Loudon as a co-investor working with Daskalakis. These are reported negotiations, not confirmation that the parties reached an agreement.
On 25 August, Bristol City chief executive Charlie Boss said: “If at some point in the future Steve [Lansdown, club owner] agrees terms with an investor, of course we’ll tell fans and in the spirit of transparency we’d do it as soon as we can.” He described anything before an agreement as speculation. The club’s comment did not confirm agreed terms.
A minority investment could bring new money into the club without transferring control. The available reporting does not establish the stake’s size, a transaction value, whether a deal has been submitted for approval, or a completion date.

Does “takeover” mean Lansdown is selling the club?
Not necessarily. The Sky News report concerned a possible minority stake. That is different from a sale of a majority stake or a change of control. Until the parties confirm the terms, it is not possible to say whether Lansdown would retain control or what role an investor might have.
There are no confirmed competing bids or finalized deal options in the public reporting described here. “Advanced negotiations” indicates reported talks, not a completed transaction or a guaranteed outcome.

How do the earlier investment stories fit?
Turki Alalshikh discussions in 2025
In October 2025, then-chief executive Tom Rawcliffe confirmed that Bristol City had held conversations with Turki Alalshikh and was open to minority or majority investment. Rawcliffe said at the time that “there’s nothing imminent, but we are well backed.” The BBC also reported that Alalshikh denied September claims that he was close to agreeing a deal. This was a separate episode from the Daskalakis talks reported in August 2026.
Mercury13 and Bristol City Women
In June 2026, Mercury13 acquired a majority stake in Bristol City Women, while the Lansdown family retained a minority shareholding. That transaction involved the women’s team; it does not show that the men’s club has been sold or that its ownership has changed.

Lansdown’s comments about a sale and club structure
In February 2025, Lansdown said Bristol City were “not close” to a takeover or new investment. He said a sale was complicated because the club sits within the Bristol Sport umbrella, which includes other sporting interests and assets. That was his position at the time, before the later reported Daskalakis negotiations.
Why is outside investment part of the conversation?
BBC Sport reported that Bristol City recorded a pre-tax loss of £18.6 million for the 2024–25 season. Lansdown told BBC Radio Bristol that the club did not have the finances to do “everything straight away.” Those figures and comments provide financial context; they do not prove that a sale has been agreed, explain an investor’s motives, or show that talks will result in a deal.

What can supporters reasonably conclude?
The public picture is of reported negotiations over a possible minority investment, followed by a club statement that terms had not been agreed—or at least had not been publicly confirmed. It is reasonable to say a deal is possible. It is not supported to say a full takeover is imminent, that Lansdown is definitely selling control, or that completion will happen by a particular date.
