Yes—TeamViewer still offers free use for personal, non-commercial purposes. Commercial use requires a paid license, and TeamViewer’s rules include some work-related activity even when you are not paid separately for a particular connection. The available evidence does not show that the company recently ended free access for everyone.
What TeamViewer’s free offer covers
TeamViewer says its software is free for personal, non-commercial use, such as connecting your own personal devices or helping friends and family with technical issues without compensation. See the company’s remote-access page and commercial-use guidance.
The free license has feature and device limits. TeamViewer’s feature overview lists a maximum of three managed devices, along with features such as attended remote support, mobile connections, unattended remote support and file transfer. Availability can vary by product, platform and license, so check the current feature overview for the specific setup you need.
When TeamViewer classifies use as commercial
The distinction is not simply whether you charge someone to use TeamViewer. TeamViewer defines private use as activity that is neither directly nor indirectly paid. Its examples of commercial use include paid customer support, work among colleagues, support bundled with a product sale, and access to a company computer for work. Work supported by salaries or sales can count as indirectly compensated. The company explains its definition in “What is private use?”.

Common cases TeamViewer treats as commercial
- Connecting to a work computer, including from home, or briefly checking work email.
- Helping colleagues as part of your job.
- Supporting customers or providing support connected to a product or service.
- Using TeamViewer for an organization whose work is supported by compensation, even if it is a nonprofit.
- Receiving connections in a commercial environment.
TeamViewer says using a personal email address does not change whether work-related use is commercial. Its examples and qualifications are on the commercial-use support page.
Examples of personal use
- Connecting your own personal devices at home, when they are not being used in a commercial environment.
- Helping family or friends without financial compensation.
These are examples, not a blanket exemption for every connection made on a personal device. The purpose and context of the session matter.

Why TeamViewer may say commercial use is suspected
A commercial-use warning or connection limitation is an enforcement signal; by itself, it does not establish that a particular user violated the terms. If you use TeamViewer only for personal, non-commercial purposes and believe the classification is mistaken, TeamViewer directs you to submit the affected TeamViewer IDs through its reset process and explain how you use the software. The support article and reset process describe an intended review time, but it is an estimate rather than a guaranteed resolution deadline.
Has TeamViewer recently changed its business model?
The claim that TeamViewer has just made everyone pay is not supported by the available official information. Its support page says personal use remains free and that commercial users are asked to buy a license to help maintain the free version for personal users. A historical company prospectus also described free private use alongside commercial subscriptions; it is background on the model, not evidence of a new policy announcement. TeamViewer’s current materials support a continuing split between free personal use and licensed commercial use. They do not establish when that distinction began or identify a recent date on which a universal free tier was withdrawn.

TeamViewer sells commercial access as a subscription. Its pricing FAQ describes annual billing and automatic renewal every 12 months. The stated cancellation process requires written notice at least 28 days before the end of the initial or renewal term. Plan availability and prices vary by country, and add-on costs can depend on endpoints, users or storage. Check the live pricing and license overview for your country before budgeting or signing up.
