Yes—but Microsoft limits the money added to and held in your Microsoft account, not the number of Xbox gift cards as such. Its standard policy allows up to USD 1,000 equivalent in additions or gift-card redemptions per day, USD 1,000 equivalent in spending per day, and USD 1,000 equivalent in stored balance per account. Country-specific limits can be lower.
What limits apply to Xbox gift cards?
Redeeming an Xbox gift card adds its full value to your Microsoft account balance. That balance is subject to Microsoft’s account and transaction limits, so a valid card may still be declined if redeeming it would exceed an applicable limit.

These are value limits, not a published maximum number of cards. Microsoft’s account balance limits page expresses the standard thresholds in U.S. dollars or the equivalent in the account’s local currency. The page is Microsoft’s live policy; check it for the current rules in your region.
Why can a gift card be refused even if it is valid?
The amount on a card is only one part of the calculation. A redemption can be affected by how much balance is already in the account, how much you have added or redeemed that day, the local limit, and any restrictions Microsoft applies to the account or transaction. Microsoft does not publish a universal card-count limit that applies regardless of card value.

For example, a card worth less than the standard daily allowance may still push an account over its stored-balance ceiling. Likewise, having room under the balance ceiling does not necessarily mean the day’s addition or redemption limit has not already been reached.
How do country and currency rules change the limits?
The USD-equivalent standard is not a guarantee that every account worldwide can hold that amount. Microsoft lists lower or otherwise specific regional maximums, including:

- France: EUR 150
- Hong Kong: HKD 8,000
- India: INR 50,000
- New Zealand: NZD 5,000

- Switzerland: CHF 3,000
- Taiwan: TWD 10,000
France also has a EUR 150 limit within any 30-day period for both gift-card redemption and purchases made with account balance. Taiwan has an additional restriction: gift cards cannot be used to buy hardware there. Local law may affect the rules, and Microsoft warns that exceeding a restriction can temporarily prevent redemptions or purchases using account balance. Does the gift card’s region have to match the account?
Yes. Microsoft’s Microsoft Services Agreement says currency denominations may be added only to an account registered in a jurisdiction that recognizes that currency. Account balance cannot be converted into another currency, and it cannot be transferred to another person or Microsoft account.

Before buying or redeeming a card, check the account’s country or region, the card’s currency, and the account’s current balance. Microsoft also reserves the right to apply additional restrictions to redemptions, refunds, purchases, and gift-card transactions, including restricting access to balance or requiring another payment method to help prevent fraud or unauthorized use.
What can you buy with redeemed Xbox gift-card balance?
Microsoft says redeemed Xbox and Microsoft gift-card value is added to the Microsoft account. It can be used at Microsoft Store online, on Windows, and on Xbox, subject to regional and product restrictions. Microsoft describes its digital Xbox gift card as a 25-character code delivered by email; see the Xbox gift card product page for its stated use.

Does Microsoft account balance expire?
Microsoft’s Services Agreement says non-promotional account balance does not expire. Promotional balance may expire according to the terms of the promotion. The balance is also non-transferable, so it cannot be moved to a different account or given to someone else.
