The reported estate was valued at £28,594,888 gross and £24,279,728 net after debts and expenses. Their appointment makes them responsible for handling the estate; it does not mean either inherits it.

Because Payne reportedly left no will, the appropriate legal term is administrator, rather than executor. An executor is generally named in a will; an administrator is appointed to deal with an estate when there is no will.
What does an administrator do—and does Cheryl inherit?
Appointment as administrator gives a person legal responsibility for the estate during administration. That work can include securing assets, dealing with debts and taxes, and distributing what remains under the applicable rules. GOV.UK explains the responsibilities of someone administering an estate: When someone dies: dealing with an estate.

The role does not, by itself, make an administrator an heir. In England and Wales, intestacy rules determine who is entitled to inherit when there is no will. A former partner is not treated as a spouse or civil partner simply because of the past relationship. The appointment of Tweedy therefore does not establish that she will receive the estate.
How much was Liam Payne’s estate worth?
The reported letters of administration gave a gross estate value of £28,594,888 and a net value of £24,279,728 after debts and expenses. The figures were reported by The Irish Times/The Guardian in 2025 from court documents. Source for the reported figures
These are reported court-document totals, not an asset-by-asset inventory or an independently audited valuation in the cited reporting. They do not show the final amount any beneficiary will receive, and the report does not provide a breakdown of assets or explain the estate’s tax position.
What generally happens when someone dies without a will?
For England and Wales, GOV.UK says that if a person did not leave a will, the most entitled person can apply to become administrator. Its general guidance says a spouse or civil partner is normally followed by adult children in priority to apply. GOV.UK guidance on applying to administer an estate

Inheritance entitlement is a related but distinct question. Government Legal Department guidance for England and Wales sets out the general order beginning with a spouse or civil partner, then children or descendants, followed by parents and more distant relatives. Government Legal Department: intestacy These are general rules; the reported appointment and figures do not disclose the case’s eventual distribution. Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate guidance, so these England and Wales explanations should not be assumed to describe every UK estate.

The cited reporting does not establish when the estate will be distributed or how much each beneficiary will receive. It also does not confirm that funds were placed in trust for Payne’s son, provide a complete schedule of assets and liabilities, or establish the estate’s tax position. A possible trust mentioned in coverage should not be treated as a confirmed arrangement.
