There is no reliable basis for calling purported peptide products listed on Temu safe. A February 2026 report documented listings, but did not establish what the products contained or how they were made. That distinction matters: a marketplace listing is not proof that a vial contains the named substance, and the report does not establish what Temu lists today.
What did the Temu peptide report find?
On February 21, 2026, Futurism reported that searching Temu for “peptides” surfaced listings for products described as BPC-157 and GLP-1-like products, including some pictured in ampoules or vials. The story said it was unclear what buyers would receive. It also described purported GLP-1 listings whose stated ingredients appeared not to be actual GLP-1s.
Futurism reported examples including a purported three-bottle BPC-157 listing for $12 and a 12-pack of a vaguely described oligopeptide for $4.14. Those were prices shown at the time of the report, not current offers or verified products. After the reporter contacted Temu, many vial and syringe listings disappeared, according to the story. That change does not establish the platform’s present inventory or explain what happened to every listing.
Most importantly, the reporting did not independently verify any item’s identity, ingredients, concentration, sterility, or manufacturing quality. A product name, image, or seller description cannot establish those facts.

What did Temu say about its rules?
Temu told Futurism that it is a third-party marketplace and that its policy prohibits products containing peptides listed as FDA bulk drug substances, products making unauthorized therapeutic or medical claims, and sterile needles or syringes intended for injection. This is Temu’s account of its policy, relayed by the reporter; it is not independent verification that the rules prevented every questionable listing or were consistently enforced.
Why do GLP-1 products require particular caution?
The FDA says unapproved versions of semaglutide and tirzepatide “do not undergo FDA’s review for safety, effectiveness and quality before they are marketed.” Its guidance recommends that patients get prescriptions from doctors and fill them at state-licensed pharmacies. It warns that illegally marketed products may be counterfeit or may contain the wrong ingredient, a harmful ingredient, too little or too much active ingredient, or no active ingredient.

These FDA warnings concern the drug categories the agency discusses; they do not prove that every Temu listing described in the Futurism story was a drug, counterfeit, or harmful. Nor should “peptide” be treated as one uniform product category: FDA-approved peptide medicines, unapproved drug products, and topical cosmetic products are not interchangeable.
FDA’s guidance also says retatrutide and cagrilintide cannot be used in compounding under federal law and have not been found safe and effective for any condition. That statement applies to those named substances, not to all peptides.

As of May 31, 2026, FDA reported 990 adverse-event reports associated with compounded semaglutide and more than 730 associated with compounded tirzepatide. FDA cautions that it is not always possible to determine whether a reported event resulted directly from a drug or from other factors. These are reports, not confirmed cases caused by the products, and they do not establish a connection to Temu listings.
How can you assess an online medicine offer?
For a medicine such as a GLP-1 drug, focus on the clinical and pharmacy safeguards rather than a marketplace label or low price. FDA recommends a prescription from a doctor and dispensing by a state-licensed pharmacy. Its guidance flags offers that:

- Advertise deep discounts.
- Claim a compounded drug is the same as an FDA-approved drug.
- Provide medicine without screening and a prescription from a licensed doctor.
These are warning signs, not a way to authenticate a specific listing. FDA’s guidance on unapproved GLP-1 drugs provides further information. If you are considering treatment, discuss it with a licensed clinician and use a state-licensed pharmacy. Do not rely on an online listing to identify a substance or establish its quality.

Does Temu’s FTC case involve peptides?
No peptide allegation is described in the FTC announcement. On September 8, 2025, the Federal Trade Commission said Whaleco, Inc., which operates Temu, would pay a $2 million civil penalty to resolve alleged INFORM Consumers Act violations involving disclosures about high-volume third-party sellers and reporting mechanisms. The proposed order was subject to district-court approval. This is marketplace-accountability context, not an FDA peptide case and not evidence that a particular listing was unsafe.
