Available evidence does not establish that Student Athlete Scholars is a scam. It does show a real organization marketing a paid membership, which it says costs $99 per year for accepted members. The organization reports a scholarship outcome, while a small number of anonymous forum posts describe billing and cancellation concerns; those reports have not been independently verified. Families should treat the service’s claims and billing terms as items to check, not as proof of either fraud or guaranteed value.

What Student Athlete Scholars says it offers

Student Athlete Scholars describes itself as an invitation-only, merit-based society for high-achieving student-athletes. Its website advertises scholarship opportunities, mentorship, recognition and leadership development. Its FAQ lists a $99 annual membership price for accepted members. These are the organization’s own descriptions; they do not independently establish that members receive a scholarship or a particular recruiting or admissions outcome. See the Student Athlete Scholars homepage.

What its scholarship statistic does—and does not—show

The organization’s eligibility page states: “18% of Student Athlete Scholar members earned scholarship dollars last season.” It labels the figure a “2024 Internal Audit” and adds “results vary by athlete.” The retrieved page does not provide the sample size, award distribution, selection method or audit methodology. Treat this as a company-reported outcome, not an independently verified success rate or a prediction of what an individual student will receive. Student Athlete Scholars’ eligibility page

The homepage also makes claims about scholarship amounts and relative outcomes. The available information does not provide an independent dataset or methodology to validate those claims, so they should not be read as established results.

What the complaints establish—and what they do not

A public DC Urban Moms and Dads thread starts with parents asking about emails from the organization. Some anonymous participants later describe an unexpected renewal charge, difficulty canceling or trouble reaching the organization; one says they disputed a charge with their card issuer. These are individual forum reports, not regulator findings, court rulings or independently verified consumer-investigation results. They are a reason to check the terms and keep records, but they do not establish that the organization committed fraud or indicate how common such experiences are. Read the discussion thread.

The retrieved official terms page is specifically about SMS messages, is dated July 21, 2025, and describes opting out of texts. It does not set out membership renewal, cancellation or refund terms. The privacy policy, dated December 9, 2023, describes information the organization says it collects—including student, parent or guardian, contact, demographic and payment information—but is not a membership billing contract. SMS Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Does an EIN or the organization’s own denial prove legitimacy?

The organization has published its own article answering “Is Student Athlete Scholars a Scam?” in the negative and citing an EIN. That is self-published advocacy. An EIN is an identifier; by itself, it does not establish nonprofit status, government approval or program quality. The available evidence does not confirm the organization’s legal status through an independent registration, regulator or court record. The organization’s article is not independent verification.

Questions to resolve before paying

Before entering payment details, ask for the full membership agreement and get answers in writing. Save the terms shown at checkout and keep payment and cancellation confirmations.
